After a brief inspection I could not find anything overly suspicious. Apart from some JavaScript to load and show advertising (LiveJasmin), which is annoying but usually not dangerous.
Seems like a false positive to me.

Just out of curiosity I will checkout Eset on the weekend. I have not used this kind of tools for years as I find them rather useless and even sometimes dangerous. But I want to see how these tools work nowadays.

I installed eset on Windows 7 in Virtualbox VM. When I access the image you mention I get following message:

The important information is "JS/Exoclick.A". This is the identifier of what was found. If you search for this identifier in google, it shows that this originates from a regular ad company. If it really was dangerous, the google results would show this.
So it should not be a security risk but only annoying advertisement.

An adblocker like ublock origin just blocks these requests without showing an irritating and annoying pop-up.

Here is an example of the network traffic with ublock:

and here without adblock. There are more scripts downloaded. These are responsible for displaying ads, popups and so on.

So my recommendation still is:
  • do not use websecurity tools that intercept your traffic
  • do use an adblocker that blocks without scaremongering popups
  • do update your browser
  • do update your operating system

(This has been a bit off topic, If there is a further discussion of security tools and risks we should start a new thread)

I get the impression some freeware security software is always trying to urge the end user to upgrade

The thing to really avoid is security suites that try an add an extension to your browser
Chrome went ballistic when 1 security suite add-on broke their sandbox

I tried inserting photos one at a time and also by inserting them all at once and it didn't make a difference.

Will try again a little later to see when and if the issue gets resolved during the day today.
Just a quick update. I've been using PimpAndHost for several days and it appears that what they were updating or fixing has been completed and all seems to be working normally again!

By the look of it Pimp was also working on some new ads / moving gifs x8
that bypass ad-blockers like ublock origin unless you manually block the space

Does somebody know how to permanently block these images, or at least hide them (e.g. via the userContent.css file) ? They are annoying to no end, and I have actually started to avoid clicking on links to P&H.

Edit: After studying the page source on P&H, I came up with the following lines in my userContent.css:

Code:
@-moz-document url-prefix("https://pimpandhost.com/image/")
{
    div#pjax-listview
    {
	display: none !important;
    }
}
This hides the crap from my eyes, although I would prefer not to load it in the first place.

I use greasemonkey (https://anonym.to/?https://addons.mo.../greasemonkey/) for this kind of stuff. This one is a bit tricky due to the asynchronous loading.
This script seems to work in Firefox 61, even it is a bit of a hack.
Code:
// ==UserScript==
// @name     pimpandhost
// @include  *pimpandhost.com/*
// @run-at document-start
// ==/UserScript==

let mainPage = document.getElementById("main-page");
if (mainPage) {
   // if main-page has been created already, remove it immediately (e.g. after reload page)
   mainPage.parentNode.removeChild(mainPage);
} else {
   // if main-page was not created yet, remove it after content load (e.g. after middle click to open in new tab)
   document.addEventListener("DOMContentLoaded", () => {
     let mainPage = document.getElementById("main-page");
     mainPage.parentNode.removeChild(mainPage);
   });
}
The images should be removed from the DOM before they are loaded, but this is not guaranteed due to the asynchronous loading and rendering.

FWIW any images stored on Pimpandhost that site is still being blocked here, with the Interpol warning.

When I click on the "continue to your image" icon, it doesn't go to the picture.
