Also, instead of encoding with increased brightness (it can't be reversed then) you can use filters in VLC player to boost brightness or gamma "on the go". Lot's of things can be done.

I would be very cautious of the word free-some purport to be but that is only the download and not to use, most are trial-based programs like VideoPad and don't be taken in by the "free to use at home" bit because it expires too and you cannot export your file even to your computer unless you pay up. If you have an older version you can go to YouTube and find a crack or password to use. I did for a later version and it's worked ever since but newer versions aren't so readily cracked. I of course do not condone stealing

I downloaded Avidemux, and tried to figure out how to make it work; but found it to be too arcane for me. I have no video editing experience, and could not find any plain language "Help" section to explain its use. I gave up in frustration.
Next . . . . I downloaded VSDC - Free Video Editor, and was able to make it work with only a few "trial & error" experiences. Fortunately, the web-site has a "How to " page that is easily understood. Download Link: Code:
http://www.videosoftdev.com/free-video-editor Code:
http://www.videosoftdev.com/how-to-use-free-video-editor - install the Free Video Editor - create a new project and insert a 26 minute HD video from my hard drive - split the video into 9 parts (scenes) - delete the 5 unwanted scenes, and join the 4 remaining ones together to form a 9 minute vid. - add a "page-flip" feature to transition smoothly from one scene to the next - add a "fade-in" feature to the opening scene, and a "fade-out" to the last - add a "De-logo" mask to the lower right corner from start-to-finish. - export the project into an mpg-2 file (it took about 12 minutes). The Free Video Editor maintained the aspect ratio, and audio quality throughout, and the playback was not impaired in any way. If I wanted to retain the very high quality of the original mpg-4 file, I would probably have to purchase the full version of the Editor. All in all . . . it was a good experience, and the resulting mpg-2 file is good enough for me. |

I've read Shotcut is supposed to be good too.
