A not so Bold Prediction
Playoff prediction #1 - Boston, Cleveland, Toronto, Washington, and Atlanta do not defend well enough to beat the top teams in the West.
Playoff prediction #2 - The Warriors finished the season ranked #1 in offense and #2 in defense, with their 11.6 points per game differential 4.2 ppg better than the #2 team, San Antonio. They have have a deep and effective bench. Unless Curry or Draymond Green gets hurt, it is highly unlikely that the Warriors can be stopped. But as John Madden observed in the waning moments of a big upset, "That's why we play the games." And the polls had Hillary Clinton winning easily. Rudy Gobert's injury dooms the Utah Jazz this year, but the Jazz and Milwaukee Bucks are teams very much on the rise.

It is really a shame that Kawhi Leonard got hurt. It has deprived us of the chance for an epic series. San Antonio is upset, but these things happen every year. (And expert opinion was giving the Spurs about a 15% chance of winning the series with Kawhi.) Some folks take sports too seriously.
https://sports.yahoo.com/news/spurs-...212304130.html In fairness to Zaza Pachulia, it is easy to see how he might have become confused on the proper way to close out on a perimeter shooter. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Td7Z36BfU7U Youtube could use a dose of Jenny and our mods. |

I was going to agree with you, but then thought that I can't see the Spurs going down without a fight. Can't see the Boston "bigs" slowing down the Cavs unless Kelly Olynyk finds a way to maim LeBron, either.
The vibe I am getting from the Dubs is that the holdovers are really pissed about getting screwed and disrespected last year. KD doesn't like being ignored while the media gushes about Lebron. The Warriors are almost frightening when focused. I think they have every intention of giving the Cavs the same treatment they have been laying on the Clippers the last three years. |

Has there ever been a playoff season where more of the games were the sort of 20-30 point blow-outs that there have been this year?

A product of the pace and space, 3 ball era. Runs are more intense so margins will be bigger, but it also means that leads are less stable. 30 is the new 20 you can also see that in the amount of big comebacks (25+) that occurred so far.

Competitiveness Overrides Sportsmanship
Popovich is such a hypocrite. Kenny Smith and Charles Barkley, who played against Bruce Bowen, immediately brought his name up when discussing Pachulia's closeout. Pop didn't have a problem with it when his player did it it. I don't see him apologizing when LaMarcus Aldridge made the same move on Kevin Durant in game 2 or Manu Ginobili pulled it on KD in game 3. Nor has he apologized for Dwayne Dedmon tried to take out Steph Curry's knee with an illegal screen in game 3. Hopefully, the Warriors can make it out of the series without getting any players maimed. Green, Iguodala, and Livingston are playing hurt and Klay Thompson is running on fumes after playing in the Olympics last summer.
What is really annoying is that the Spurs limped to the finsh line losing 4 of their last 5. So, now they are going to try to wreck the Warriors chances with deliberately dirty play and justify it by blaming Pachulia. This all could be avoided if the refs would call things by the book at the start of games and series, and not make things up as they go along. Popovich needs to retire. |
