I was quite the Frazetta freak in my youth, inspired by his brilliant cover work for the Conan comic and album covers for Molly Hatchet. He inspired many others in the fantasy genre, including Boris and Julie Vallejo.

Many of you might have seen the eerie images from the Icelandic volcano:

A friend of my sisters was on the road near San Diego when an earthquake shook them so violently they had to stop. I've never seen anything like what's happening on those hills...

San Diego during the fires in the surrounding hills a few years ago, and a house a few blocks from my sister's.

When man works Nature into art...

Cappadocia, Turkey A very strange landscape to begin with, made more so by the ancient inhabitant's custom of carving their homes from the rock formations. Very like Lucas' vision in Star Wars. Quite pleasant spaces, not hard to imagine living there. The small cutouts in the rock are roosts for domesticated birds. Their gardens/farms were on the valley floor below.

In the US we've got Mt. Rushmore... but in Britain you've got something I think is better, the wonderful Uffington Horse:

Which brings to mind some other drawings that have come to be associated with a kind of Science Fiction...

Métal Hurlant, and later the U.S version Heavy Metal, was the school where the 1st time I've met lot of now well known SF or fantasy artists : Giger (Alien), Corben, Caza, Voss, and so many more.
French Philippe Druillet, now painter, was one of my favs :
