If you're all talking about the same problem that I think you are, the solution I've used several times is simply to make a dummy post in the thread, just consisting of an apologetic message for the benefit of anyone watching, then immediately delete it.

This isnt the best solution, as the mods then have to physically remove the deleted post.

Phantom posts occur when a thread you subscribe to has a new post, but the post is removed before you can view it. It will appear in your subscribed threads as unread until a new post is created on the thread.

Well I won't do it anymore then. But does this mean that if I delete one of my own posts, a mod always has to come and remove it later? Us non-mods don't have that clear an idea of what goes on behind the scenes.

Yes mate.

When you self delete anything, the post is no longer viewable to members, but 'behind the scenes' the post is still partly visible

The Mods will then have to remove it. If posts are added before a Mod checks the thread they then have to search through the whole thread looking for the deleted post(s).

There's currently a phantom lurking at the end of the Electric Blue thread. I debated putting a notice in the Classic Movie Problem Post thread because the section mods might not be familiar with the phenomenon.

I'd be surprised if the other mods in CM didn't know about this.

I'm just not sure there is anything that can be done about it after a post at the end gets moved.

Maybe I should've said not familiar with the term "phantom", which is easier than trying to explain it from scratch.

Ing might have some insight.
