Does ADPF "remember" non-duplicate pairs? By that I mean, if it tosses up two images as potential duplicates and the user doesn't delete one or passes or hits "next", does it bring up that same pair on subsequent runs of the program?
For me that is a critical feature since I'm dealing with a 900,000+ and growing image collection. I can't be clicking "Next" for the same image pairs every time I run the program, it would just take too long. Which segue ways to my next critical feature, speed. Whatever program I use needs to be able to run thru that collection plus potentially up to two or three thousand additions in no more than an hour or two. At 30,000 per hour it sounds like it would take ADPF over 30 hours to make one run thru my collection. And finally, the last critical feature for me is the ability to have the program search an entire directory tree (a directory and all sub-directories and all their sub-directories, etc.) and then either 1) compare only files in the same directory or directory tree; or 2) compare all files regardless of what directory they are in; or 3) only compare file in different directories/directory trees. Any rate, that's my two pfennigs. Oh, and did I mention that it has to run under Win XP?

I gave up after trying the first 10 matches....too annoyed. It also has the nasty habit of declaring similar pictures matches, forcing you to look through each match (unless you trust in the 'match percentage' statistics the program generates). It appears (at a glance) to only check for patterns....and likely only 1 type of pattern. All in all, it's faster than some I have tried, but the awful interface and lack of intelligent matching make it a pain to use with a large image collection. p.s. - Duplicate Cleaner (link in my previous post) does allow you to save data after a scan. No image-matching properties, but still handy for plain-old crc comparisons. |

The best image dupe finder I have tried is Uniquefiler
Nagware. No longer updated, but I can confirm it works on Windows XP. Uniquefiler can create different databases and use several databases at once.

Do you have a link to that 2010.09 version? This is the first I've heard of it.

Firefly problem solved on Mac
Apparently, there are few Mac OS X applications that can handle recovery infos included inside the rar-splitted files, like Winrar for Windows.
After some searching, I found an application that works. You can download at: http://zipeg.com/ Install Zipeg for Macintosh 2.9 universal binary, launch, open the first rar part, copy/paste the pw and wait for decompression, it creates a folder on the desktop and unrars it perfectly. It worked for me |

Audiotag.
A webside for identifying music. I was watching a clip that somebody had dubbed with some looped music, it was bugging me what it was, couldn't identify it by a search for the words spoken in it. So I stripped a 30 second audio clip out of it and uploaded it to the site, nearly instantly it gave me the right answer. Ok it didn't know my next one but I've been searching for that for 30 years, and don't think I'll ever get an answer. So worth trying if you have a track which you really want to find. BTW The track was this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HJTz6nrh7Ys |

GQview and similarity
GQview has 4 similarity modes, high, medium, low and custom. The logic or algoritms used are unknown to me, rarely use it.
Just did though. Heres the result with similarity set to high. (Sorry about the explicit nature of the images found, not my style ...) As shown the software rates the probability of similarity. /trm |

I haven't used it more than once or twice myself because it does not search image host services like ImageVenue, **********, ImageBam, etc. or links to such within UBB/VB based forums. From what I can tell it just looks at images HTML embedded in webpages. If you try it, give us some feedback and let us know what you find please.
