This is no problem if you use Pale Moon only for the grabbing and keep otherwise surfing with FF (as I do now).

I tried to open/unzip this file 'imagehostgrabber-1.6.6.20140620_J4ZZ_custom.xpi -1,10 MB' provided by Jazz but didn't manage to get anything out of it

But then I found a stunningly simple solution to problems w/ Someimage. Just open the site's own 'gallery index' from a single picture view and start grabbing from there (IHG 1.7.0.3 works just fine this way).

Brilliant. That works like a charm. Thanks!

I've sometimes had to update the someimage URL code in the Host File Editor and it's worked.

^http:\/\/someimage\.com\/(?!login|abuse|tos)\w+$

Could you explain to me, just what that does?

I know its Regex (regular expressions) but each time I try to understand them, it feels like I've had a stroke . . . would appreciate a dissection of this.

I'll confess I haven't a clue. I'm not a programmer by any stretch of the imagination. I found this on an IHG forum. Tried it in the File Host Editor of FF and it worked for me. My best guess is it tells IHG how to access and extract someimage files.

The FF Host Editor has a list of image hosts as long as your arm and I presume they have different and often times unique programming to access. IHG needs the info and format to access file hosts properly.

That's all I can guess. Any programmers out there are certainly welcome to elaborate.

Oh, yes, it is that. Its a "regular expression", like *.avi or Montreal???.jpg -- its not exactly a programming language, its a way to represent patterns of characters.

And yes, it is unwinding the way the picture hosts hide the files behind the thumbnails you see, because they are there, in the html of the page (Imagehost Grabber can't see into PHP generated imagehosts).

But its super dense stuff . . . I know how it works in theory, but that's very, very far from how you actually use it to parse a page.

[Edit]

So I decided to play a little with a regex tester, to see what
^http:\/\/someimage\.com\/(?!login|abuse|tos)\w+$

might mean.

so first character is ^ = "assert position at beginning of string" -- eg where you start

"http:" = start of a web address
\/\/ seems strange, but what's happening is that the \ is an escape character, so what this produces is //, so so far we're looking for a pattern "http://"

next comes "someimage.com" so we're now looking for "http://someimage.com" -- you get that bit
now we have two modules:
(?!login|abuse|tos) -- this is a tricky bit, designed to reject stuff -- eg not match--

followed by

\w+$ = \w+ means any word or character, and $ ends the regex

1. I also go for this alternating strategy

2. To get the XPI-File working, you need to manually install it while being on Firefox.

>> Go to "File" (1st. column on top) >> select "Open File" >> look for the folder you downloaded it to > left-click >> Open >> the FF-Install-Routine starts.
.

Er, um, just to be clear ...

The latter are simple, Glob Pattern Matches/Expansions that provide only a few "wildcard characters."
A regular expression can be far more complex and, even more so, far more exacting.

It's a tool that some languages and even command-line programs use, very common in anything C-based. For example, traditionally Windows has very simple (basic glob) pattern matching, while POSIX (UNIX/Linux) platforms have advanced pattern matching, including full regular expressions.

Scripting languages like Perl, Python and others have full regex support, along with interface languages like Java and C# which includes Windows' more recent PowerShell that is based the same methods as the latter. Even most POSIX developers and sysadmins like the fact that PowerShell, based on C#, which in turn is based on Java (even the CLR has the same limitations as JNI) and very POSIX-like (long story), finally gives Windows similar capabilities.

It's just matching and replacing, but literally takes lots of practices and experience, especially with slight variations in implementation. I mean, while it's easy to write a working regular expression, the difficulty often comes in avoiding false negatives and positives, requiring further accommodation.

In any case, Mastering Regular Expressions is still one of the best introductions to the topic. Even just the first few chapters will set you in the right direction.

Re. the FF 45 & IHG issue, see here. I also haven't tested/tried it as am still reasonably happy with Pale Moon.

done.

Has anyone tried this?

I followed all the instructions hos gave here, but I still can't download any pic from Someimage using DTA! Anti-container. On the other hand, the other image hosts(pimpandhost, imageupper, imageban) don't present any problem at all when it comes to download the pics using the same DTA! A-c.

Can anyone help me with this? Thank you guys!
