Well, gosh. Gee whiz. How did this happen? Trump's tariffs on China exclude articles of clothing.

Where is Trump's clothing line made? China. I have one of his ties.

Where is Ivanka's clothing line made? China.

Jim Cramer has been agreeing with Trump on the subject of trade for years.

That being said, they should watch the trades Trump associates make because I think he will use tariffs to make money on the stock market. It's like low hanging fruit that he won't be able to stop himself from grabbing.

I was just reading an article that many former ethics compliance officers and career prosecutors believe that Donald, Jared, and Ivanka are in clear violation of bribery and corrupt practices laws. I am not really expecting a major shift in the Congress this November, but if there is, expect some investigations. Sooner or later, the Dems are coming back in and it will be open season.

I seriously doubt that the Trump's really understand how much the rules changed for them when they took office.

Cramer is certainly in the minority. Granted that science is littered with the consensus having been proved wrong. That's how new theories get created. But mercantilism is an old discredited theory. I will be astonished if the country is not in free fall a year from now. Do you expect a revival of Ptolemy's spheres? How about the ether? Shall we revert to the gold standard and require all payments in specie again?

Contrary to Cramer's assertion, the economy is not strong. The wealth creation is not there. We have major asset bubbles in stocks and real estate and are overdue for a "liquidation" event. Our economy has been propped up by foreign firms willing to exchange real goods for our promises to pay, i.e., bonds and currency.

Just what do you expect to happen when China and the E.U. export less to us and start dumping their dollar denominated bonds on the market to meet their obligations? Other than our banks and pension funds suddenly finding themselves with far fewer assets and reserves overnight, that is. Will a major drop in the value of your 401k bother you?

Try this on for size.

I only hope that all these taxes will save a little bit more environmental resources.
Because these stupid "free trades" all around the world burn billion of liters of oil for... virtual money.

It's already too late to save us. The water is already starting to run short in several areas. We will really start trashing things when the wars start.

But look on the bright side. In another 70 million years or so, some creature may be pumping us out of the ground and burning us as fuel.

From The Guardian

Quote:
Had Republicans not obstinately blocked Obama’s own supreme court nominee, Merrick Garland, in 2016, the choice of Kavanaugh would be less consequential. Garland, an eminently qualified centrist, would be concluding his second year as an associate justice on the supreme court. A progressive-centrist majority of Breyer, Kagan, Ginsburg, Sotomayor and Garland would now control the court.

Instead, we are now looking at the five-man majority of Thomas, Alito, Roberts, Gorsuch and Kavanaugh. This will constitute the most conservative bloc of justices since the early years of the Roosevelt administration, when a hidebound group of justices struck down crucial pieces of New Deal legislation designed to ease the suffering of millions during the Great Depression.
IMO, we ought to be trying to progress, not trying to recreate the 1930s. My grandparents were born around 1900; my parents in the 1920s. Yes, my grandfathers fought in World War I; my dad and my uncles fought in World War II. My parents and their siblings grew up in the Great Depression with their parents struggling to provide food and shelter to the families. I grew up hearing the stories of those dark days.

All you folks cheering Trump on clearly have no grasp of history. I really don't believe that you will enjoy violent repression of working people and the re-emergence of overt class warfare. I am pretty sure that you will be very unhappy as your living standard continue to erode.

At the risk of sounding like a jukebox that only plays one song, when media outlets continue to frame the Merrick Garland nomination in this manner they are doing nothing but spreading disinformation and misinformation. In the absence of then Senator Jo Biden's comments on the Senate floor in June, 1992 the Senate would never have been able to "obstinately" delay that nomination. It just would not have happened. Had they pushed the matter there would have been severe political fallout in November, up to an including a possible HRC victory. Joe handed them the keys. That's why the WH and the Obama administration rolled over and played dead. They had no choice. It would have been political suicide for them in an election year had they raised a ruckus since it was their boy and his big mouth that painted them into that corner.

Granted, the mainstream media are a bunch of liberal whores but nobody ever mentions Biden in this discussion. Are they that ashamed of that hapless idiot?

Frankly, I don't see how some Joe Biden comments justified Mitch McConnell's break with two and a quarter centuries of practice and tradition some 24 years later. Had the polls not shown a Clinton victory up until James Comey put his thumb on the scale, it is very likely that Mr Obama would have reacted more forcefully.

Face it, the party of wealth and privilege is using every trick in the book to usurp political power and game the system. But the day of reckoning is coming. The day is rapidly approaching when the Democrats or some sort of quasi socialist party sweeps into power with massive voter support. Reforms will be far more sweeping than in the Roosevelt New Deal and the 1% will come to realize that pure greed is a short sighted policy. Unless, of course, social order breaks down completely and the masses extract French and Russian Revolution style vengeance.

Those who have worked so hard to recreate the political world of the Hoover administration have blithely overlooked the violent and radical pushback by the working classes in the preceding half century. Y'all are leaving people of color, the Millennials and their children with nothing to lose.

Personally, I do not like the prospect of radical and violent change. Chaos gives us figures like Napoleon, Stalin, and Mao. My preference would be to manage the economy and government with sustainable distributions of wealth and reinvestment. Right now the finance sector is siphoning the future well being of the country into the pockets of flim-flam characters like Trump.
