A more interesting question was in the European version of Spartacus. Ms Simmons was walking around the pond and then enters the water. The production notes said that she was nude. This scene was in the European version.

Mr Harris who did the restoration work on Spartacus interviewed Ms Simmons and asked her about the nude scenes. She said that she was never nude and always was using mole skin. Darn thin mole skin if you ask me.

The final question is what happened to the European version of Ms Simmons walking around the pond and then walking into the water.

A total mystery. It was around in the mid 80's but when the restoration was done it was not to be found.

I've always thought that perhaps S Kubricks estate may have the scene.

I believe they are authentic stills from "Spartacus" (1960) with Kirk Douglas. There was a nude bathing scene. I'll check if that part of the scene was edited out.

The nude bathing scene was highly edited for the movie
as it was released in the United States. No film footage
showing Jean Simmons' breasts was allowed. The copies
of this movie that were shown in Europe had this scene
without any editing, and her nudity was very visible. So,
basically there are two versions of Spartacus, one for
mature European audiences, and a tamer version for
the more restricted American movie theaters of that time.

Which begs the question does anyone have a copy of he nude bathing scene from the European release?
