What kind of zombies are we talking about? The traditional voodoo zombies that shamble around or Dawn of the dead ghoul-zombies that move like Usain Bolt on a serious caffiene jag? If it's the former, a flamethrower; the latter a .50-cal gatling gun.

My understanding from watching "The Walking Dead" is that zombies (creeps, walkers, whatever) would be attracted to loud noises. Shooting noises would just draw a crowd of "fans". Also head shots are the only reliable way to put zombies down. So I'm looking at minimal acoustic signature and low recoil......

(1) M-4 carbine or H&K G36c, both in 5.56mm NATO (.223 caliber) equipped with sound suppressor, laser and a red dot scope. Your classic AK-47 has more stopping power but has a stiff recoil and is not as accurate over 300 yards. Plus you can carry more 5.56 ammo than the 7.62mm ammo used by the AK-47. And how much stopping power do you need for a head shot ?

(2) An alternative for close combat work would be an H&K MP5S in 9mm, with integral sound suppressor. This limits your range to about 100 yards but the MP5 is the gold standard for submachine guns and is an accurate, reliable weapon.

(3) Glock 17, Walther PPQ or Sig Sauer P226, 9mm, loaded with 148 grain subsonic ammo with a sound suppressor.

(4) A machete, samurai sword, or military grade entrenching tool.

The "last chance" kit would be a little different:

(1) A good combat shotgun.

(2) An M249 Squad Automatic Weapon (SAW), 5.56mm NATO, with 200 round ammo boxes and a spare barrel.

(3) Hand grenades, of course.

(4) It would be lovely to have an M32 Multiple Grenade Launcher (MGL).

(5) A couple of white phosphorous hand grenades or Molotov cocktails.

(6) A couple of bricks of plastic explosive. If there's no door, you might have to make one !

(7) A 40 pound block demolition device, also known as a satchel charge. Dropping a building or blowing a bridge behind you might also be a good thing to do !

Hell, if you're going to die you might as well go out with a big BANG !
