Re the cake thing, I am surprised they weren't sued by the makers of Sesame Street for using the picture of Ernie and Bert. They recently categorically denied they were gay but just good friends- Morecambe and Wise shared a bed in their sketches, Laurel and Hardy shared a bed i their films-doesn't mean they are gay!

I have a friend who lives there.

We went to high school together.

She couldn't evacuate.

She has a mother who has Alzheimer's and dementia and is under constant bed ridden care.

There was no way to put her in a car and go through this:

I am worried about her.

4 hours ago she says her power is out but she is still posting updates on Facebook.

One of the only 2 roads North and Northeast out of Panama City also has a bridge over the waterway and that bridge has been officially closed for hours now.



So she and the rest of the folks who didn't evacuate are stuck there.

It seems to have been a prolific hurricane season. We are already up to M and there is an N ("Nadine") brewing. At least 6 weeks to go before the hurricane season is due to end.

I once worked with a young woman from that bit of Alabama which is in the corner where AL, GA and FL meet. She doesn't live there any more but I suspect her relatives still do. There is already heavy rain and 40pmh wind in her old home town and a hurricane warning.

It seems to be that this sort of weather is becoming more commonplace. Humanity always adapts to survive, but individuals might not be so lucky. I do wish your friend good fortune. The probability is that she will suffer nothing worse than a bad time, but I know this is now in the lap of the Gods. Nothing you can do now but you can be there to rally round when the storm passes, because she will probably need help afterwards.

I believe that in the UK it is perfectly legal for any retailer to refuse to serve a member of the public. It is certainly the case that some individuals have also been blacklisted by Amazon for various undisclosed reasons.

Regarding the cake business, I initially thought it was an over-reaction by members of the God Squad, but this Supreme Court decision does seem sensible and perfectly fair. Had someone walked into this shop and asked them to put Heil Hitler, or Death to all Black People on the cake, the outcome would have been somewhat different.

Christ !!! Does that mean I could get in trouble for only renting accommodation to young female Europeans?

Just heard from my friend for the first time in almost 9 hours.

The hurricane has passed and it's well far away to the north of Panama City.

It's no longer raining and windy.

She is still without power and her home didn't get flooded or get damaged but it most of the rest of the city didn't fare so well:

She was reposting post by other residents in Panama City on Facebook like the single mother with a newborn baby stuck in her 2 story apartment and the first floor is flooded - she posted her address and unit # begging for someone to come save them.

Very heartbreaking!

Thanks to everyone here who said prayers for my friend and for everyone who were in the path of this hurricane.

And if you didn't say any prayers, well you will have to answer to the higher up some day when you go.

Check out the roof and the windows with metal grating on them.

Her neighbors are covering their windows with wood and have roof shingles made with wood and compostion, she has build in metal grating on her windows and roof.
