I saw this science program, maybe last year, where they explained that if people were aboard a train that travelled close to the speed of light, when it reached it's destination, less time would have passed for the people on the train than the people outside it. They also said that while the laws of physics don't forbid time travel, it seems like you can only travel towards the future.
If astronauts are affected by that time thing, however small the difference, does that mean if people travelled to Mars and back there'd be a time difference between them and us?

Gravitational time dilation can be seen in global positioning satellites which need to have their clocks regularly adjusted.
It also means that your head ages more quickly than your feet, that people living on the top floor of a tower block age more quickly than those on the first floor - and that time passes more slowly for people living at sea level than it does for those on mountains.

However, anyone hoping that a lifetime living in a basement is the secret to longevity will be disappointed.
The effect is so small that it would add just 90 billionths of a second to a 79 year life span!
They can actually measure this now with atomic clocks, but Einstein was such a genius he worked it out with just his mind and maths. The equations are here if anyone wants to check it.

So would someone, purely as a hypothetical example you understand , living in an attic in .... let's say .... London age faster than their parents living on the lower floors.

Those 90 billionths of a second may not be much to you but that savagely would eat into his planned Babestation watching time
