Far in the distant future when the world has no separate nations, just one people, just one ideology, just one language and that language will be American English. Sorry the UK, France, Germany, Russia, eastern Europe, Russia, Scandanavia, Belgium, Spain, South America, Central America, the Mideast, the Far East, the Near East, all the independent islands in all the oceans, Africa, and everywhere else only American English will be spoken. There won't be separate nations anywhwere, no separate flags. Just one world and language. I predict this might happen in about one thousand years or less, if we don't destroy ourselves first from a plague, or an atomic war, or get destroyed by an asteroid, or by super powerful savage outer space aliens that want to eat us!

I wouldn't count on that scenario coming to pass at all-for a start far more people speak non-American english than American-and the demographics don't favour the US....loosegoose is more likely to be on the right track-if english remains the dominant language-which is not the same as the language with the most people speaking it-[english only ranks third globally after mandarin and Spanish!]-it is likely to be a devolved lingua franca blend of african and asian 'engrish'....

If that is true then why is it that all schools in every other nation teach english. All the children everywhere want to learn english. They are not so enthusiastic about learning spanish, german, italian, urdu, hindi and so many others, just English. And they all want to come to America, see America, see what it is like to be in America, see what they see in their history books, tralvelogs, and on t.v. Sorry guys. I think that English will not only be the dominant language in the future world, it will be the only language. All the others will be obsolete, and forgotten.

But only as a "second" language. They're seldom asking for their "native" language to be replaced by English... not even in Australian guise. "Engrish" is a great borrower so may help it continue evolving rather than dying.

America will never fall. Our stupid corporations have closed practically all our factories, but we still out produce more food,( mainly grains and veggies from the humongous government farms that exist mostly in the Midwest) than any other nation in the world. It is said that my state of Illinois alone can produce the entire world's need of corn. And we still have the strongest military machine, although it is mostly now the thousands of ballistic low yield tactical missles that we have in thousands of missle silos all over the country and in hundreds of atomic submarines that patrol the world oceans. Lets's say just for an example that Australia and New Zealand were attacked by an unknow foe. The UK and America would come to your aid with our mighty military machines and overpower this foe. Over the many centuries to follow, the other nations will acceed to the idea that the world should be just one government with one language and that language will be English or as you Brits often refer to it as (the King's English).

Well, what we see on TV about America is mostly gangster & drug-lord movies and soaps. Crime & idiocy are the dominant themes. Your elections count as soaps

America almost doesn't figure in history books, unless it's recent history. Almost no one knows anything about America before WW1, except that Siberians discovered it -- yes, I know I'm old, but it wasn't me

I wouldn't risk a visit to US myself. When I went to AUS they pulled me from the line and asked questions, even though my brother lives there. I expected this, but what they'd do in the US is anyone's guess
