Natural Born Killers - 1994
after my frustrations of not being able to "Name that Film", I watched this.
directed by Oliver Stone, and screenplay by Quentin Tarantino. starring Woody Harrelson, Juliette Lewis, Robert Downey, Jr, and Tommy Lee Jones. so many edits, so many edits! and a tad-bit violent, but typical Tarantino. I saw this in a theater when it came out, and not sober I might add! that was a mistake... |

I watched this a couple of months ago and was really disappointed with it, as you say GS it's a lazy film. I feel that it relies way too much on special effects rather than a strong story, which is ironic given that it's a greek myth and a remake of a great film, with no depth given to any of the characters and missed opertunites to really play to the strengths of the villians, watch the original it's much better. I supose if I was ten i'd be impressed by all that nice shiney CGI

Watched Out Of Africa tonight. 45 minutes too long, it went from a well done low key slow paced film to something on the far side of tedium.

A Bittersweet Life
Courtesy of a mate of mine, I've just come into possession of a pile of Asian films that were originally released on Tartan (under the Tartan Asia Extreme label). I've just finished watching A Bittersweet Life, and it's excellent. It's a Korean film directed by Jee-woon Kim (who also directed A Tale of Two Sisters, if you are familiar with it). It's a gangster film, about a hotel manager (Sunwoo) who is also the right hand of a deadly underworld boss. His boss orders Sunwoo to kill his girlfriend, who the mobster suspects of having an affair, but Sunwoo decides not to kill her. The mob boss orders Sunwoo's death and Sunwoo has to battle the gang to get to his former boss. Top drawer stuff, that reminds me of John Woo at his best (Hard Boiled, The Killer) mixed with Martin Scorcese (Goodfellas). I heartily recommend it (if you can find it after Tartan folded. ) |
