Guardiola boasts to best European record of any manager after 100 games. Yet he got it badly wrong tonight with his tactics. There was rumblings at Bayern that his tactics in Europe were not the best and it would seem it was the case again for City. I suspect Pep and City were quite happy when the draw was made. They along with many others would have seen Monaco among the weakest sides left at that point. However after the last game he should have known they would not change their style. He decided City would not change theirs and its cost him.

15 months or so ago my hometown club was looking at relegation. The team was in disarray and it looked like a rough time ahead. Now here they are, the last British team in the CL after their heroics Tuesday night. In one way tonight's result suits them as it now guarantees them a nice away trip for fans. I had a nasty feeling Leicester would be drawn against City had they both made it through. It would have still been a big game for the club. However for the fans a night in Manchester is not quite the same as Barcelona, Madrid or Munich for example.

I think it would have been rude not to headbutt Jamie Vardy when you're that close to him. I hope Sami Nasri has started a new tradition.

will any of us live long enough to see the "domination of domestic and European football for many years by Manchester city" that so many pundits promised us all those years ago. A couple of titles and a couple of cups is not domination: it's Leeds.

True any club can win a title or two. Even Wigan managed an FA Cup win in the not too distant past. I think Guardiola needs at least another season to shape the team and mould the side into his vision. The problem is even the best managers are not often given time to do that. Also the reality is if you score 6 goals over two legs and don't progress you really don't deserve to. It will be interesting to see who comes and goes over the summer as he looks to build a team in his image.

I see also Middlesbrough have sacked Aitor Karanka after 3.5 years. They are struggling big time in the league and can't seem to score either. I wonder if they left it too late as there are not a huge amount of games left to grab points from. There was apparently bust ups earlier in the year also because of a lack of funds available for transfers. So maybe the club should look at themselves for not strengthening the squad as much as him for why they are staring relegation in the face.

I wonder who will want the job? Whoever takes over will need by the looks of it to bring them back up as it looks like they are going down. Nigel Pearson appears early favourite for the role according to the bookies.

Pity about Vardy's blatant cheating to get an opponent sent off. Disgraceful.

Did not like Vardy's reaction, but If you stick your head in someone's face your asking for trouble, its not like its the first time for Nasri.

Nasri was going to be sent off anyway without the theatrics from Vardy. Funny we are often told that its a "foreign disease" when it comes to play acting. Yet here with have an English player doing it and the media seem to have glossed over it. Had it been the other way around the media would have crucified Nasri.
