there is a simple way to avoid the standard 3-pics-wide mode at IV. After creating your gallery and "sending" (as they call it) the pictures, when the uploading process is finished, click on "folder viewer", mark the gallery that you just created and uploaded, goto the bottom of the page and click "view folder", goto the bottom of that page too and click "get codes"; then click "get codes for a forum" and "submit".
You'll have to copy the script that is then shown and paste it into your post here. I can't say how to specify a certain number of pics for the page width, but they'll always be something like 5 or 6, a reasonable width in my opinion. The whole process is a bit less convenient than as you are used to when using IB, I only used it in the past when there were problems with IB, which happened occasionally. But with IB gone, it seems an acceptable alternative.
IV do not allow GIFs, though. Can anyone recommend a site that allows to upload GIFs?

The max filesize is 2MB you can up multiple images and create galleries but since there are no accounts you would need to bookmark your galleries or otherwise save the links.

You have to enter a security code and check the tick box for TOS each time. It is mostly adult images.

I have never had a malware or virus problem with this host. Question is will VE approve?

If a host has the correct thumb size and you don't get ***** when you try a test post , it's allowed.

Imgbb allows large pics - so pretty decent. No Imprint and Whois says Panama.
But no BB code though. Reupping would be a real hassle.

Thanks for your effort Thorgrim. I see two problems though. The first which is obviously correctable is your first post is too large. The second is I do not see any way to navigate from one pic to the next one with out exiting one and then clicking on the next. I very well could have missed of course.
I have switched to ImageVenue for now. Seems to do what I want.

I posted and suggested that image hosts start requiring paid memberships. I would be willing, as I imagine others would too, to pay a nominal yearly fee of perhaps $15-$20 if that would keep them afloat and prevent all the chaos their shutting down is going to cause. Considering how many images one would upload and post in one year's time that is actually a reasonable fee.

I would also be willing to pay for a reliable image host, say 5 to 10 Euro/month.

Just an idea, if anybody is able get in contact with Flo: Please ask what the costs are to run a service like ImageBam. Maybe crowdfunding (= the practice of funding a project or venture by raising monetary contributions from a large number of people. Crowdfunding is a form of crowdsourcing and of alternative finance) can spare us the hassle of reuploading 100,000s of posts.
