Is it possible to resolve this problem?
I typed 1968 in this topic and didn't find a result, so I publish this information (that maybe was already published)
More people killed by US domestic gunmen since 1968 than in all wars fought by America Quote:

I believe we will always have gun deaths in the US. 2/3rds are suicides, our suicide rate of 10 or 11 per 100,000 per year is comparable to the UK and Germany so a gun ban would have diminished results there. A large percentage of the other 1/3rd are criminals killing criminals (90% of murders in some big cities) so doubtful if they will obey any laws prohibiting any action on their part.
The actual number of guns in America is unknown, but just looking at gun manufacturing stats, import stats and export stats, I estimated 5 million guns a year were being added to the total several years ago. So I believe this article (more than 400 million) here is more accurate than the 300 million estimate you see discussed in most articles. http://weaponsman.com/?p=33875 I think it is safe to say there are more guns than people in the US. As to change, you need 3/4ths of the states to ratify such a change to the Bill of Rights - to abolish the 2nd Amendment - and you will not see that anytime soon. The last poll I saw on banning handguns, the leading killer in the US, was done soon after Newton and that had 74% against a ban. If the pictures/sights of dead six year olds did not provide an impetus for change, this massacre will probably produce the same result. As to why this idiot decided to hose a crowd of 22,000 with rapid fire from rifles at a range of 300 to 400 yards, who knows? He will doubtless spawn copy cats - probably all over the world. May he rot in hell. I know that Europeans have a hard time understanding the US gun culture, but it does exist. I don't see it changing. |

Feel free to read this google translated article written by the French newspaper "Le Monde" about "Switzerland, an increasingly controversial weapon paradise" Switzerland, an increasingly controversial weapon paradise But in Switzerland the percentage of unemployed people, ghettos, gangs criminality is very very very low. We also can't compare a country of 8 millions inhabitants with a country of more than 300 millions. Maybe the brutality in the USA is linked with some social problems too. I don't know. I'd like to know your opinion. But the most insane facts for us Europeans, are children killing other children at school. That's intolerable for us. In Europe we get more than 600 millions inhabitants and very rarely listen about such disturbing stories. Right now, I'm writting to you and I don't remember a case of a child going to school with a gun and killing 20 schoolmates. |

By the way In Europe, with each nation making its own gun control laws, nearly 400 million people are denied access to these tools, it is possible to get a weapon but rules apply, it prevents little pathetic people thinking they are tough because they have a gun! We also have about a hundredth of you deaths through gun shots across Europe, and this includes acts of terrorism! Know which continent I feel safest in! |

Let's assume that Congress passed a change or abolition of the second amendment and it made it through 3/4 of the state legislatures and passed. Now what? I haven't seen anything meaningful written anywhere on how the government would go about collecting these weapons. Anyone naive enough to think that gun owners would dutifully just march down to their local PD and turn them in isn't just naive - they're delusional. House to house search and seizures? That will end well. I see a lot of ink dedicated to gun control but little ink devoted to how this would be accomplished. One option I have read about is banning semi-automatic weapons. That's possible without touching the second amendment. It doesn't guarantee the right to bear semi-automatic weapons. But again - how to you enact it? As has been mentioned, we really don't know how many firearms are out there and who owns them and I'm only talking about the legal firearms. Ammunition? I've read hundreds of billions to over a trillion rounds of various calibers may be in private hands. If banning firearms in the US is a monumental task enacting that ban will be a Herculean feat. |

Are you Swiss? If you are I'd be really curious to know how guns are viewed there. I feel that a large problem in the US is that guns are glorified and revered. |
