I'm guessing you have never had really bad flu. I did when I was about 19 and it wiped me out for the best part of a month. Remember, it can be fatal and, indeed, has been at many points in human history. Don't conflate a cold with influenza - two different matters.

Personal choice of course, but I always have the jab - even when I had to pay for it.

Flu jabs are now given to the young (although the very young now get a special spray up the nose!) the old and anyone that is diabetic MUST have one. My arm aches this morning after my jab and as I said the older members of society over 65 can now get a triple protection jab - being over 80 my father didn't qualify for that, presumably it is too dangerous now, but he got the ordinary one, my mother is going to get a shingles jab in December(free) My best friend got shingles a few years ago and it is really horrible, painful and nasty looking-it took weeks to get rid of it.

I'm lucky and have never been ill. Not even flu. They offer free inoculation here too, but I've never used it

Many years ago I read a medical article about flu. The virus can be extremely dangerous, and killed more people in 1918-20 than the whole first world war

The article continued and said that there are many hundreds of flu viruses. Apparently, they start in the East each year, and move West. It's not possible to produce or stockpile enough shots to cover all of them for the year, so the WHO makes its "best guess" as to what's coming. It covers 6-8 of the viruses, and that's what you'll get if you take the shot

Not to alarm anyone, but that covers less than 1% of what could be coming. However, there has not been a problem like 1918-20 again. And the WHO is definitely on your side

I've just read an article about Blake Fischer, who was 'a top Idaho wildlife official.' I say 'was' because he was forced to step down over a scandal concerning his killing a number of baboons in Africa. He made the mistake of sending out an email to over 100 people basically bragging about it. Anyway, his resignation letter didn't apologize, and ended with this phrase: "for the animals that I harvested" (my emphasis.)
I had never seen that word used before for anything besides things like vegetables and other crops. Turns out I've led a sheltered life the last couple of decades. Checking on line, I found a ton of articles that used the word in the same perverted manner as Fischer did. There is a High Country News blog entry from 2012 that talks about such substitutions:

Sure enough, after doing some digging, I found "harvest" substituted for "hunting" in all sorts of places. Of course the NRA is on the “harvest” bandwagon (see this example from their website), but interestingly, they aren’t consistent – “harvest” is mixed in with more straightforward verbs like “kill.” The Arizona Game and Fish Commission, on the other hand, are so harvest-happy that (in addition to being used by their spokesperson) it appears in their mission statement: their task is to establish “policy for the management, preservation, and harvest of wildlife.” The Ohio Department of Natural Resources amusingly allows new hunters to print out a “My First Harvest” certificate. The term has even shown up periodically in HCN (such as in this 2010 opinion piece by Wendy Beye), though usually in reference to reports or other documents.

The site Will to Kill has an article entitled Hunters, Do You Harvest or Kill? that concludes:

We can use fancy words or long winded explanations but ultimately we are killers. We aren’t murderers or violent people and frankly I think most people would be surprised at how nonviolent hunting is. You can use whatever word to describe your successful hunts but I think I’m ok with just killing. Harvesting sounds boring anyway.

I'm not against hunting for food in the right circumstances, but using a word like 'harvest' for animals is just wrong.
