Well, one good thing about the refs not throwing a lot of flags is that we got to see a high-scoring game, and they were able to fit in all of those cash cow commercials.

I don't remember all the specific instances, but seem to recall consternation over at least one play call in a AFC title game to the Colts. I pretty sure Bill did something weird in at least one loss to the Broncos and there were play calling questions in the losses to the Giants. Of course, one of those Giants losses contained one of the most bizarre plays (the "helmet catch") in Super Bowl lore.

One scouting report I read prior to the game predicted that the Eagles offense would be "kryptonite" to the Patriots defense. "Spread them out and come back inside." What was really impressive about the Eagles was the way they just kept driving down the field and scoring on the Patriots. They would have scored more, but for a couple of mistakes. They needed to, because their defense wasn't having much luck in stopping Tom Brady & crew.

It made for a pleasing game that the referees did not inject themselves into the game much. My view was that these were two smart teams that avoided penalties. Calling the Eagles for a foul on Chris Hogan during the last play would have marred the game. When a team is down by 8 points and needs to complete a desperation long pass to tie, they need to somehow get a guy open. The ball was going to Gronk.

You can't deny that that a domestic football comp affects the locals more that foreign fans. For no other reason than I participate in Australian NFL forums, I know there are Australian Philadelphia fans. You think they're all gathering around down here damaging property and flipping cars over?

What do you think has a bigger affect on me. The Panthers winning the SB, or Carlton winning the AFL Grand Final?

Yet since Warner's 414yds in SB 34 no-one came anywhere near that apart from Warner himself in SB 42. Yet Brady threw for 466 last year and 505 this year. That isn't easier. It's phenomenal.

As for feeling defeat less. Stop watching the pootube videos where people pretend to film their live reactions while watching pre-recorded games.
