How you shouldn't drink from bottles that have the resin identification code 1
As those bottles were made with polyethylene terephthalate. Which (They say) leaches into the water in the form of antimony (Can cause headaches, kidney , liver damage etc) and brominate (Can cause psychotic symptoms and paranoia).

Only switched to bottled when found out (By accident) that the pipes in this area are all lead ones from a couple hundred plus years ago. Yeah brilliant. Very safe. No wonder Anglia (Bastard rip off) water are always out and about repairing leaks. Repairing with a little bit of copper, while leaving the rest of the unhealthy piping underground to continue crumbling.

So I can't drink the tap water and what now can't drink the bottled

I just looked up some articles about plastic bottles made with this polyethylene
terephthalate and the consensus among the researchers is that the amount of Antimony and Bromide that is left in the water is only about 6 parts per billion, which is well below the minimum toxic level, so I think it is safe to drink water from these plastic bottles. I drink all my water in plastic bottles made from number 1 and number 2 resin.

Forget about the toxins in the plastic bottles, whenever I see anyone drinking bottled water I cannot help but think about how many bears, moose, deer, skunks, and other wild animals peed and shit in those fresh water streams, brooks and ponds where that water comes from!
Regardless of how many purification processes the water goes through before it is bottled and reaches consumers I still would not drink that stuff on a bet!
It would not also surprise me if that stuff came right out of a tap and companies are passing it off as "mountain spring" water at huge profits! As P.T. Barnum said "there's a sucker born every minute".

I don't drink Spring water in plastic bottles. I drink only what is called purified water by the method called reverse osmosis. This is tap water that has been put through a special machine that filters the water many times through powdered Carbon, and special types of resins that trap even sub-microscopic impurities. The machine even irradiates the water with ultra short range ultraviolet light which kills all bacteria, viruses, fungi, and other microscopic organisms. Brands of this type of ultra purified water include Hinckley Springs,and Dasani(made by the Coca-Cola Company).

I believe that in many Western cities, the water provided to you is partly recycled and has been passed through at least half a dozen people previously. Presumably, this is no big deal as it must meet high standards.

As far as third world countries go, I would certainly not consider drinking it and should you ever visit Egypt, you expect to run into trouble with fruit and vegetables washed in local water. This is probably not just an issue there.
