Default Recycling

I live in a state of marginal tidiness at best but since my local authority introduced compulsory recycling I find that I have a semi-permanent backlog of used tins and cardboard milk cartons needing to be washed by hand along with my never ending stream of coffee cups, plates, pans etc. No, I don't have a dishwasher; scoundrel is the dish washer here.

Getting my next meal together so I have cleaned all the work surfaces and washed one lousy soup tin used at lunch time and forgotten about. I am now bleeding enthusiastically from the middle finger of my left hand and my green salad is going to be slightly richer in iron than I intended.

Bring back landfill.

Default Aggressive sales tactics

I'll summarise very briefly because otherwise I'll never stop typing, and right now if I don't get this off my chest I may die of high blood pressure.

I have just finished having the most difficult confrontation I've had for an extremely long time. It's my own fault: I said yes to a person on the telephone who offered me a really attractive deal on a new kitchen and the salesperson who followed up, a charming and attractive young woman, very persuasively explained how this kitchen could be paid for, without bleeding me white at a time when my cash is very short. I really do need a new kitchen so I listened. Like I said: its my own fault.

Overnight, I reflected on the maxim about things which sound too good to be true. I did some research on the kitchen company which I ought to have done before meeting the sales lady: my own fault. And yes, their customer reviews are very bad. This is doubly worrying because the lady had declined to write down the details of the payment arrangement, so I either trust her word or I don't. Should she welch, with nothing in writing, I don't even have the basis for a complaint, but I do have an exhorbitant lease finance agreement to service at a time when I need to watch every penny.

I decided to cancel. But the company sent her back to listen to my concerns and I felt that she was due a reasonable opportunity to answer them. The killer was when she started to offer financial sweeteners in lieu of the third party confirmation that her/her company's word is good. I knew then that she and her company are twisters and the surge of anger nearly killed me, because I had to remain civil to a chit of a girl, no matter how I felt.

Worse, she refused to leave when I invited her to go. I actually had to call the police. With a man I could have offered to use reasonable force but with a woman I know better than to raise my hand: but I hated calling the police. They were very supportive actually and stayed on the line until I could confirm that she was gone. I have an unresolved, probably stress related health problem which she knew about so I feel that her tactics were a covert act of violence. Never mind the crying, the difficult personal time she's having, and how her promotion hinges on this sale. But note in passing that it was now possible to set the terms of repayment down in writing when previously that was simply too commercially sensitive. Another rabbit out of the hat.

Tomorrow morning I see a solicitor and make absolutely sure this contract is cancelled as they say it is: I was mad ever to take their word on anything, but they do have their patter down to an art.

Thanks. I feel slightly better now.

I'm so angry its making me feel ill.

Really sorry to hear you were a victim of hard/soft sell tactic`s there Scoundrel
By the way i`m refraining from adding any jokes (Even though a couple sprung to mind related to having to call the police to evict a woman from your house) out of respect for your shitty experience
If you want to name and shame the company involved please feel free , in fact it might be advisable to then help others avoid a similar stressful event

You're right Greenskull: the forum deserves the information. They're called Space Kitchens. Google them and you'll see that my experience of their sales technique is consistent with their reviews.

I had to call the police (first time ever for removing unwelcome folk from my home) and it was pretty mortifying to do this for the sake of a 22 year old woman who other circumstances might have been welcome to stay a while: but those were not the circumstances. Also, I don't have confidence in my own ability to use minimum force. I hardly ever raise my hand to anotther person but on occasions when it has happened I have been excessive and I'm very concerned about that.

The whole thing was really disturbing: both the sobbing and the wriggling on the hook, all the extra concessions she could suddenly make. I won't do business with people who act like that even if I have to die for it. Its quite a visceral reaction and physically unpleasant.

Cold calling and associated techniques I think your in the clear usually with any contract there is a change your mind period (5-7days).Plus the U.K. has pretty good consumer protection laws.
May I suggest you check out Ikea their kitchens are not bad and they can design to your spec in store.
Dont worry be happy

I am 5' 8" but hard as f**K, , many years ago I was fighting in a martial arts tourniment in Belgium and I fought Dolph lundgren, now I would love to say I beat him but he kicked shit out of me, in the UK there is a saying, "the bigger they are, the harder they fall" NOT TRUE, the bigger they are, the harder they hit!
