My lounge rig
Linn Mimik CDP>Linn Kairn pro pre-amp>LK85 power amp>Keilidh 3 way floorstanders. For headphone use Linn Mimik CDP> Linn Magik integrated using headphone section>Grado SR60 or Beyerdynamic DT990 pro (when I can get them off my eldest son) Portable Zen Vision M > Hippo VB canalphones using bass port number3. (Sound ripped from my own CDs at 350kbps variable bit rate on WMP 11) The Hippo can actually matched the level of bass put out by my Keilidh floorstanders and give a great soundstage....no hissssssss. They needed about 50 hours use to settle down and give sweet top end. Initially from the box they are a bit sibilant on cymbal crashes and snare drums. Hippo VB are available from Uncle Wilson at Jaben.net in Singapore for about £55 shipped. Customer service is 5 star..no worries. On my portable rig, I am looking at trying the new Phonak Audeo PFE bass adjusted balanced armature phones which are getting good write ups. Used with comply tips they go deeper into the ear canal and are better at blocking external noise as people have written. I am getting some comply tips for the Hippos to see if this helps with blocking external noise some more. Last edited by dbailey; July 25th, 2010 at 08:16 AM.. |

Perhaps I should not post here. In three listening rooms:-
twelve valve/ tube amps 1950's and 60's five valve hybrid amps only solid state are four sets of Quad 33/303 Nakamichi and Denon cassette decks seven kenwood cd player (had seven but this one plays discs the others skip)+ 2 Sony eight sony minidisc recoring decks (sony Atrac as a compression formula is superb) cambridge audio DAB deck speakers all english except two pairs of Linns. 4 pairs of B&W 2 pairs of Ruark I pair of Akroyd beforethey became Royd 8 different pairs of Rogers speakers including a pair of LS3/5A that I assembled myself at a cost of four hundred quid at least three hundred quids worth of leads and speaker cables(weakest link and usually what is supplied on the high street can be improved by a visit to the poundshop) I should not be here because all the possible permutations of amps and speakers means I start swapping components, get bored halfway through and end up with fuckall to listen to for months on end. |
