Phobias
Now mine is a slight wariness of extreme heights , but you can blame my father for that. Well he did put a blanket over my face and dangle me out of the window so his gormless fans could cheer and , whoops i`ve said too much
See Phobias can ruin peoples lives , or in the case of a friend of mine your social life , as he`s afraid to ever put a hand to his wallet and buy a round so seldom goes out . Anyway that`s just two examples , but what`s your`s ?. And don`t say a pint

For me it's crowds. Only developed this phobia about 5 years ago. I take the meds etc, but think I just hate LOUD people. Everyone is always in a hurry. I've had a phobia about work as soon as I left school and was told, go and get a job!

I'm fairly neurotic so have a good few phobias to choose from but my biggest bugbear is fear of confined spaces. My destination needs to be a long way up a very tall building before I will even consider using the lift. I don't like cable cars very much (heights are a bit of an issue as well). I was once locked into a clients' premises under a viaduct when everyone went home and forgot I was there: it was like being buried alive in a crypt. Not good.
Naturally I'm terrified of women as well and I need them to be gentle with me... |

Claustrophobia. I recall a couple times when I felt it pretty bad. First time was in Manhattan: I walked into Port Authority, got to the elevator just as it was opening up. Wow - great timing. Problem was everybody was gettin' off work, and a whole buncha people started jammin' in there, and it hit me in an instant that I had to get out of there. Somehow I was right near the front so I managed to hop out before the doors closed.
The other time was even worse. There was a major snow storm, and as is always the case, the streets had been plowed, all the snow piling up on the side of the streets. A friend of mine had constructed an igloo inside the snowbank in front of his house. He went nuts carving this thing out, spending hours, even hosing it down on top so that the roof was solid ice. Ya had to get down on yer belly and crawl through this little window of a 'doorway' to get inside the thing. I went in there with him and another guy - they were all fired up: "wow, this is fuckin' awesome......yeah, man, check this out" - all this kind of stuff, I mean they were just goin' apeshit over this thing. There was just enough room inside for the three of us - and I (having been the first to enter) was the furthest in, towards the back wall. All of a sudden it just came over me in a rush that I absolutely had to get out of there immediately, so I told those guys (sounding as cool and casual as I could manage at that moment of near terror): "hey, I'm startin' to feel a little claustrophobic - I think I'll step out", all the while scared to death that they were gonna mess with me, and I was so thankful and incredibly relieved when they did not, because I'm quite certain that I would have freaked out totally if they had. |

Some great ones been mentioned so far , although not so great for the sufferers of course. Plus can`t believe i forgot about clowns as those guys give most people over seven years old the creeps .Who knows maybe it`s the painted smiling face masking the true emotions underneath that effects us most, or the fact they just aren`t funny what with their main act being overlarge shoes an all.
Now my true phobia is ghosts , as in i get spooked out by the thought of spooks. But then i blame (Hey it`s always good to have a cause, and you know Jesus said that so it must be right ) my much older sister for freaking me out when growing up by constantly having visions of them . Mind you this is also the woman who swore she once saw a fish in a tank with a human face , me i`d have said it was her reflection from the glass, only she`s quite crazy so i find it best to humour her (Preferably while some distance away) . Ghosts Well apart from her the BBC is also to blame for doing that program Ghostwatch in 92 . I only started watching it quarter of the way through and being young and impreso imppressi impreesionab , ok stupid , i mistakenly half believed the badly acted mess of a program was true. Then again these things effect and stay with you even if you don`t want them to , not that i let it effect me too much as i still put myself in spooky situations. Also i sleep with the light off which is really very brave , especially when i know for a fact that all those ghosts hate and want to kill me !

Electric shock. As I`m surrounded here with all kinds of Moogs (®!), electric organs and russian drum-machines from 80`s I have developed some kind of phobia that some of those will kill me some day. I`m not too serious about this, but if such thing happen, It`s just because of that distorted noise I make, "environmental clean-up" or something like that.
Yes, a more than real chance for electric-shock is in places like this: Last edited by Futuro; March 10th, 2011 at 07:18 PM.. Reason: reupped photo! :) |
