Alien: Covenant (2017)

Trailer

Since the release of this picture is still fresh, I'm going to abstain from revealing anything about the plot and just add a few words about my impressions. It would be too shallow and simple to shrug this off as a bad movie. Yet I couldn't help but ask myself what Alien: Covenant is really about and what might be the point of not just this sequel to Prometheus but the entire prequel series.

The characters have no personalities at all, making it hard for the viewer to follow them. You don't even care. And don't you think the "machine turns against its creators"-cliché is getting a little tired? After sitting through this film for two hours, I can't say there was any passion and excitement in it. I was glad when it was over. Ridley Scott must have felt the same when he shot the final scene but the pay was good.

The entire story is just a recently made-up salad of nonsense. Do you really think that Dan O'Bannon and Ronald Shusett had some deadly pathogen in mind when they wrote the original script? It was supposed to be a one-time experience, a frightening horror film about an unknown extraterrestrial lifeform and nothing more. Even James Cameron's Alien II was a redundant action movie.

If you're a hardcore fan of the franchise, you may find a point in watching Alien: Covenant. But you're not missing much if you skip it.

Das Glas Wasser, A Glass of Water (Germany, 1960)

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0053867/

Light cultural food, but extremely amusing. Adapted from a play about intrigues at the British royal court by the French playwright Eugène Scribe, realized with outstanding performers like Gustav Gründgens, Hilde Krahl, and an excellent Lilo Pulver as Queen Anne. Directed by Helmut Käutner.

Nowadays impossible to produce since this requires a bit more than today's usual mediocrity.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FssTH6wFvdo

Sadly only in German.

Cult of Chucky (2017)
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt3280262/

The psychotic killer doll returns and he's not alone as he wreaks havoc inside an asylum, a bucket of gore laden fun fest, not one of the better Chucky films but passed a reasonable 90 minutes or so.

Big Grin Am two thirds (I said thirds ) through

This ,

Don't want to diss the movie. Certainly as I`m watching it for Gratis (My neighbour , Greek guy , you don't know him ) and on the plus side John Boy Walton isn't in it.
As man alive that mini series was about as successfully riveting as balsa wood screws.

Only thing going for it was the supremely superb performance of enticing one minute , devouring the next. Tim Curry as the embodiment of Pennywise.

In this reboot part one however we have Pennywise portrayed as somebody about as enticing as a fresh dog turd salad.

Lousy to know the great Mr Curry remains mostly laid low by a crippling stroke after so many years
As if it`d not happened then even at seventy one I think he should have been cast.
Hell if anything a seventy year old Tim Curry Pennywise would have shot this supposed horror up several notches

As it is we rely on the child actors alone (I think) to carry us along. Who are great in their roles.
So that`s why despite the film being mainly a load of old jump scares (Zzzzzz) with nothing we haven't seen before.
I`m still sticking up

Hi Max. As a complete reader of Mr King books, I had loved 1990 the 'IT' adaptation tv movie. As I can say Cellular is awful, or Dome is a joke for tv compared to the book.
Will I Waste my time on this one? I trust you!
Merci mon ami.

Couldn't embrace the TV adaption (Damn you John Boy Walton ) because aspects of the book were missing.
In that respect this part one is far more authentic to the original story.

Argh such responsibility , such pressure
Since don`t want to steer you wrong
It is worth watching
The cast (Clown aside) are believable and certain themes missing from the book as I say are either included or strongly hinted at here.
Just wish more thought could have been put into the horror aspects.
Since the parts we`re meant to scared by (I felt) were tame and (Sorry) a bit lame

After a surfer disappears James Franciscus & Vic Morrow find part of his surfboard which bears all the signs of a shark attack, of course local businessmen want to ignore it as there is a big surfing competition coming up. Can our two heroes track down and kill the beast ???
