Default What processor and hardware do you run?

Not sure if this is the place for this, mods please feel free to move if necessary.

This question is prompted by a new computer acquisition. I was fumbling along (didn't realize it) with an Intel Core2duo and Windows7 trying to convert and rip video. The new one is an AMD 8 core Ryzen7 with Windows10 and it's unbelievable! Rips DVDs in Handbrake in 7 or 8 minutes (now I know why they call it ripping)

Still getting used to new programs, but the early reviews are great!

I usually browse this forum using my small Asus Vivo PC. It only has an Intel i5-3210M CPU @ 2.50GHz and 4GB Ram, running kubuntu. Good enough for Internet and email. It is mounted right beside my couch. The monitor is installed using an adjustable ergotron wall mount.
I intend to replace it with a fanless Intel NUC next year.

My main PC has a bit more power, but nowadays the performance gain from new hardware is not as much as it used to be. I am perfectly happy with my four year old i7 with 16GB Ram. But I am not a gamer, gamers always need the best hardware.

My NAS has a low power Celeron J1900, 16GB Ram and 3x 6TB hard disk.

And I have two Raspberry Pies running kodi media center connected to my TVs.

Well, it also depends on your video source and your ambition for ripping. The classic sources are usually both noisy and interlaced. Speaking from a 3,6GHz perspective a proper rip can take hours to encode with a quality noise and/or deinterlacer filter.

Intel I7 6th gen 3.4GHz

Like kogi said, even when you throw this kind of hardware into the mix, it can take a long time to properly rip and encode a movie.
