The MCC (which owns and runs Lord's) has a contract with the ECB that states that Lord's hosts 2 test matches a year. Has been the case for many years.

There has just been a remarkable game between India and Afghanistan. The Afghan spinners throttled India down to 224 -8, restricting them to 49 from the last ten overs. India have just now managed to bowl Afghanistan out for 213 from 49.5 overs and until the penultimate over Afghanistan were still in with a reasonable chance. Mohammed Nabi made a fighting 52 off 55 balls to keep the chase going when Afghanistan has just lost two wickets and subsided to 106 -4 with only 20 overs left. Sadly he ran out of good batting partners and the tail tried manfully, but weren't able to keep up with the scoring rate, leaving him just a little bit too much to do.

India could easily have lost to Afghanistan today and I dont think even Indian supporters would have begrudged Afghanistan had they pulled this off. Now the records show six straight losses for Afghanistan, and the injustice continues. They really aren't a bad side.

If the India v Afghanistan game was entertaining, NZ v Windies was out of this world. Carlos Brathwaite so close to pulling off a miracle - I was hoping for Boult to palm that last shot over the rope for six, but no.

Great knock from Kane Williamson though. The guy is something special, without ever making big waves.

Yes. For a few moments I thought there was another upset on the cards.

And over on the other channel one almost got a repeat of that famous last over heroics from Braithwaite (the one that still probably haunts 'Rocky' Stokes) only to be rather well caught on the boundary going for glory.

In all a rather good day's cricket. The tourno has certainly woken up these last few days.

England's last games are against Australia, India and New Zealand. If she loses all three of them, the door would indeed be open for either Pakistan, Sri Lanka or Bangladesh, provided also that they win all three of their last fixtures. However, Pakistan have yet to play New Zealand and both Sri Lanka and Bangladesh have yet to play India. Bangladesh and Sri Lanka also have to play against each other. It isn't likely that any of them will win all three of their last games, but it could happen.

England need two wins to close the door for sure, but one win would probably be enough. India could also be the unlucky one, but that would be a freak occurrence.

So The Banglas duly won their game against Afghanistan - one thing I noticed that both $ky and the Beeb address the Afghan captn as Gulbadin whereas I am sure it says Gulbaden on the back of his shirt. After the events of the weekend no game is a 'gimee'.

So now they are one point adrift from England but having played their 7th game.

Interest will now shift to Lords. England often come back strong after a setback. They sure need to come the morrow.

If we lose tomorrow and Sri Lanka (1) and Pak (2) win forthcoming games we could be sitting in joint 5th with Sri Lanka going into the India game on Sunday, hopefully NZ won't drop a brick against the Pak.
