The problem with the search function is that it's a piece of shite.
The other day I added a post about Monique Just to French classic stars. Good luck finding that in the future with a search function that upfront decides that the word "just" is filtered out from any searches... In that sort of situation a good index can help. |

As buttsie points out there are lots of film threads in the talk section as there are lots of sport, politics, music you name it there is probably a thread if not several and they keep being created. It would be some task to try and index the diverse subject matter covered by all the threads of which 119 have not had a single reply to the first post and could maybe be closed or amalgamated with other similar threads, whatever happens it will take lots of time & effort. In Celebs lots of generic threads have been created which over time have fallen into disuse as the thread starter got bored or left and the subject is now of little interest to other members. We have to try to maintain the indexes we already have and I create new indexes almost daily and it takes a lot of work to keep on top of it. There is no one size fits all solution.

Would it be possible to have a main page that lists every thread from day one (01) to now? This way you have a full scope of how the site took shape and possibly how it can be successfully reorganized. It also allows more members to find unique threads they have easily missed over the years. You can also ask the help of VEF members to contribute their time to reorganize the site for you and all of it's users.
As a start how about a link to the very first post or thread on VEF. Last edited by Rizky; June 12th, 2015 at 04:57 AM.. |

Here's the oldest surviving post. The only one this member ever made. http://vintage-erotica-forum.com/showpost.php?p=2 The last post in just that thread: http://vintage-erotica-forum.com/showpost.php?p=3303116 is some 3.3+ million posts later. Post 1 appears to have been gone for quite some time.

That would only be a loss of about a third. I reckon the loss is much higher. I tried to look at posts with a random post id smaller or equal to 3.3million, and instead of getting a valid post 2 out of 3 times I almost always get "invalid post", and sometimes "have no access" (i.e. it's in a bin). So, I am pretty sure that at the very least binned posts count towards that 2.3 million figure.

Could we ban the starting of any thread in the Discussion & Talk Forum that can be answered with just a "Yes" or a "No"?
They tend to restrict discussion. For example "Do You Like x?" invites "Yes", "No". or "Sometimes", "Why Do You Like X?" invites discussion. Thread titles as general as Greenman's "Things Noticeable This Week" are so open and broad that they generate lots of activity I'll name no names in order to protect the guilty but "yes/no" threads usually peter out very quickly, clutter the place up, and at best turn into places for the Mods to indulge in a brief burst of comic riffing and banter.

Agree personally, not as a mod, 100% But, there is always a bigger picture. Simply, some members can understand English to an extent but may not be able to engage in discussion confidently. A lot of one word posts can be attributed to that, they will feel like they're contributing in a small way without breaking rules, I've no problem with that. But, for members who can but don't, well I'll reserve my opinion for fear of getting warned myself

vBulletin post date formatting
A rather minor thing, but I'd like to be able to alter the displayed format of post dates in vef--not globally but just for me as a user. There is a vBulletin plug-in/add-on discussed here that would seem to allow precisely what I want. Can that please be added to the vef install?
I first raised this idea here (i.e. it discusses the issue in greater detail), so thanks to e.d. for helping me find this thread. |
