A bunch of guys were probably playing that game... what, you've never seen the online video of guys "bobbing for money"?

Put me right off my dinner. Well, for about a minute, anyway.

I went shopping yesterday, treated myself to some new clothes, and paid with a credit card. After the clerk rang in my purchase she asked me the usual questions, "find everything okay, need anything else, etc." but she used my first name when she asked.

It always bothers me a little when someone I don't know gets overly familiar.
My feeling is, she should have called me Sir or Mr. <family name>. Am I wrong?
She wasn't wearing a name tag so I said "Thanks Ethel, that's all I need today."
From the look on her face I either guessed her name or made my point.

I should probably just chalk this up to a generation raised by television. I was once greeted with "Hey mister" by someone who had no idea they were being rude. I know it's somewhat petty, but does this bother anyone else?

I often get called by my nickname, which is an abrieviation/derivative of my given name.
It doesn't really bother me that much. I use it myself in an either further condensed version (saving ink ) when communicating with friends.
But it can be a little 'overfamiliar' when dealing with strangers sometimes.

Unfortunately most of the time, I've got bigger things to worry about, although that doesn't mean to say i don't understand your concern about possible disrespect.

On the other hand when friends use my whole first name i get a little uncomfortable, immediately 'go on the defensive' and suspiciously wonder "What do you want?", probably because the majority of (good) employers address me formally. I digress.

I wouldn't blame the salesperson. My retail days ended about a decade ago, but at that point people were already being told to "make it personal". I considered it incredibly awkward back then, and my opinion hasn't changed a bit since.

Default Television shows that just won't age gracefully...

You all know what I am talking about -television shows that are just put on to fill up the air in the extremely vain hope of entertaining us, but lost their entire value about twenty years ago -at least! For example:

1. MASH. (Please -never again!)
2. Seinfeld. (Even once was bad enough!)
3. The Mary Tyler Moore Show. (Uhhhhh! -those horrible 70's fashions.)
4. Rainbow. (Even the children weren't spared.)
And 5 -and most horrific of all -The Brady Bunch. (No, please, the carrots are coming up again....uuullllpppp!)

This has got to stop!!!!!!!!!!!

In fact, here is my remedy for the last one, as I am feeling rather poetical right now; please feel free to sing along to these following lyrics...

Here's the story of a tart with herpes, who was bringing up 3 very ugly girls;
All of them had some disease, just like their mother,
The youngest one gave birth.

Here's the story of a twit named Brady, who's busy with a carton of his own;
And when he had finshed all of his tinnies,
Greg then went and got him stoned.

Then dear Peter went and got poor Alice nice and pregnant,
And druggo Marsha kept on bringing up her lunch,
Bobby and Jan were well and truly into wilful incest,
And yes, this lot were a completely screwed up bunch!

This screwed up bunch,
They even mattress-munch,
And then they were sent to the family court to get the crunch.

My conscience is clear; In fact, in the words of George Harrison: "I have suffered for my art. Now it is your turn!"

And to quote Monty Python: "You'd better get me a bucket. I feel like throwing up!"

Right now it is the sheer stupidity of some people. I have received a letter today, I have no clue as to who sent it, I believe that it is someone looking for employment. I could be wrong it contained 2 sheets of A4 paper totally blank on both sides and no retuen address on the envelope.

This would seem to be an indication that the sender is a little slap dash in their approach to thngs in general.
