Brilliant post. Brings back memories of growing up in the eighties and discovering the delights of the lingerie section in the kays or great universal catalogue. You knew you were not a kid anymore when you found the ladies in lingerie more interesting than the toy section.

I love the airbrushed-out nipples in some of the more sheer pics.
In Australian ads in the 1980's they sometimes left in the nipples, but airbrushed out the navels! I used to have a collection, but long since gone.
I'll get around to posting these edited pics one of these days. Too little time; too much to do.

Yeah arlangen, some things never fade. I used to hide them myself but due to their size they became harder to store. In the end I resorted to tearing pages out and well, as you can guess, they tended to become rather damaged over the years. Some however have remained intact and with my new-ish scanner I will endeavour to share them asap.

You know, sometimes I could kick myself because in the 80's, these catalogues were literally everywhere - I only wish I'd stored more. Indeed, If you said to someone back then, 'I am collecting catalogues' they would look at you as if you were from Mars since they had very little nostalgic or practical value. Now look how things have changed.

I did have lots of opportunities to collect them. For instance every time I went to a relative's house you'd see them somewhere usually in the magazine rack or under the coffee table. Often just tossed in a bin. Folks would spend ages looking through for things for Christmas etc or just out of curiosity. Me being the growing young lad I was, all I could think was 'bloody hurry up will ya, I wanna get to the back pages'

When the folks had ordered a new catalogue arrived at the door the buzz was incredible - you just knew certain names would always provide an eyeful. I even managed to secretly order some for myself, as doing so was incredibly easy: my details were never ever verified, and the catalogues were always sent free-post. You could literally order them to your heart's content, although I did get some strange questions from the folks..erm..erm..I'm using them to learn about retailing. Yeah, that's it..business studies and the like.

But I also love looking back at catalogues in general, and am very grateful for this site. It's like a time-capsule from a bygone era; a place a million miles away from today's click-and-collect culture. And the women in these ads? Still sexy as hell if you ask me mate!
