Why put a picture on your body for life which you wouldn't put on your wall for a week?

Too many women have too much bad tattoo art flung on - 'slag tags' across the back, horrific climbing plants entwining their way, looking like varicose vein covers, dream catchers, gothic suns,...my sister in law has a lovely butterfly in the small of her back which symbolises her emergence from a crap marriage. I can understand that - but she was more attractive without in all honesty.
I've seen some fantastic tattoo art, beautifully rendered but as fascinating and admirably executed as it might be, I'm still firmly in the 'NO' camp.

Which, I'm told, makes me 'old'.

I wonder if Willie Nelson approves of this particular design..

You wouldn't want to come across this tattoo,at all..metaphorically speaking.

My older sister has a rose on her shoulder, most times, it's not even visible. And I'm quoting a post from another thread on VEF, "Remember when tattoos were a sign of rebellion, not conformity?" My sister got hers in 1980.

If you really care for the girl it isn't going to matter much. My missus has my name tattooed on her wedding finger (her choice). She also has a cherub with 2 roses, with my boys name and mine on each rose stem, I really like that one To me, the tattoo thing has got to have meaning

While I remember, MANY years ago, while I was still at school (thinbk 1970's), a girl in the year below us had "Yea, though I walk through the Valley of the shadow...I will fear no evil for I am the meanest Bitch in the Valley!" tattoo'd on the outside of her thigh. Not too stylish, really. She had very considerable thighs, mind.

It turns out that her parents ran the local tattoo parlour - she related one horror story that I still vividly remember: a very drunk, heavily tattoo'd bloke came in and demanded that he have a spider tattoo emblazoned on his glans. The old man's helmet.
The girl's dad rightly said words to the extent that "you're off your chump my fruitloopy friend, please go away" and refused, pointing out that the pain would be excruciating. The bloke went off, brought back a bottle of brandy, drank it and said 'when I pass out, do it then'. The girls' dad was still reluctant at which point the tattooist's wife stepped forward and later there was a man with a spider on what must have been a savagely painful part of his anatomy. Women, eh?

Imagine me shouting Bollocks a thousand times because I forgot to post one of the strongest reasons for hating tattoos.
When Hannibal Lecter was caught in the book it was because of a set of books with illustrations of wounds and some matched his victims. Harris did not invent the books; I had the volumes, complete with colour plates. What stuck in my mind was a particular type pf gangrene called Gas Gangrene. The flesh dies below the surface of the skin for various reasons with no visible open wound. After a short time the build up of gas from the suppurating flesh virtually explodes to leave a gaping wound and an apalling stench. Just before the time of venting the surface of the skin which is right at the outer limit of the decay turns black.
I was reminded of it today when I saw a picture of Pink and that large expanse of black on her thigh.

Depends on the woman, the tattoo, and the tattoo's place.

I gotta agree with woodpicker, it's a shame to see some (what I would call) very pretty ladies (in this and other forums) tattooed up like sailors. Years ago, I discussed it with a friend and he described it as "poor man's art". But, the funny thing is that some seriously beautiful women (Like Veronica Zemanova, Paris Hilton, etc,) don't have any. I guess it's a self-image thing.
