Sources for stills of Nadia Gray
Currently looking for (if any) original stills of Miss Nadia from any of her many films, with special attention to the following:
Città Canora (Melody of Love) Une Parisienne La Dolce Vita Candide Musik im Blut (Music in the Blood) Maniac Encounter In Salzburg Le jeu de la vérité (The Game of Truth) Also looking for original images from interviews for film magazines. Reprints are acceptable, so long as they are of good quality. I've pretty much tapped out e-Bay--and I daily check their sites in the US, Canada, Australia, France, Germany, Italy, and the UK in case something good shows up. Any one have an idea for a good alternative European source that may have what I'm looking for? Many thanks.

I recently watched an obscure but fascinating 1965 Czech film Ninety Degrees in the Shade on the excellent Talking Pictures channel (Freeview81).
This has two revealing nude scenes with Anne Heywood but I haven't been able to find any screenshots or clips. None of the usual sites have any mention of this film. Can anybody help? |

No, Tina Louise never appeared as a PMOM. In the early years of Pl@yboy, they often purchased stock photos from independent photography studios: as an example, neither Marilyn Monroe nor Betty Page, both of whom appeared as playmates, ever walked into the Pl@yboy offices or studios – their images were licensed from photography studios that supplied calendar companies. By 1953, when Marilyn Monroe appeared as the first playmate, she was far too famous to pose for nude shots anymore – that famous calendar pose had been shot in 1951, two years before Pl@yboy started publication. If I recall correctly, the first playmate who actually posed specifically for Pl@yboy appeared about a year into publication, in February or March of 1954. To get back to Tina Louise, by 1962 she was hugely popular – her image had appeared on dozens and dozens of magazine covers, she had won a golden globe as “best new actress” in 1958, been in the “scandal newspapers” over and over as a “wild girl” who was dating every rich playboy in New York, and by 1960 had moved to Rome for 2 years to try and score big in the “peplum” movies that were all the rage back then (“Siege of Syracuse”, "Warrior Empress”) as well as a bit part in a Rossellini movie. This 1962 calendar image was part of a series of “peekaboo” self-promo shots she had done while she was in Rome (along with the famous “negligée” shot that Pl@yboy also featured in one of its 1962 issues): Tina was featured in two or three Pl@yboy “pictorials” – never nude, though – in the late fifties and early sixties. As her popularity started to fade, she accepted the role in “Gilligan’s Island” TV show, which pretty much ended her “serious movie” aspirations and also ended any chance of her risking her TV contract by appearing in any nude or semi-nude photo shoots anywhere (and besides, by then she was 30 years old). High Resolution Scans 1890-1930
I purchased this huge, beautiful scan from Tallulahs.com several years ago. I’m looking to purchase other scans of this quality -- Nudes/partial nudes/elegance/actresses/assorted erotica, from the turn of the century. Unfortunately Tallulahs (and their follow-up store, e-vint.com) have both shut down, and I don’t know where to look. I am having very little luck finding vintage images of this high quality online. If you have any high-resolution scans from this era, I would love to see them. If you know how I could get in touch with PK Hobbs, I would be eternally grateful. If you know of an alternate vendor who specializes in high-resolution scans of these kinds of images, I would love for you to message me about them, so I could patronize their business. Any help or advice you can share is greatly appreciated! For graphics nerds: PK Hobbs, the proprietor of Tallulahs, sold this as a download, providing a 29 megabyte TIFF file and a 10.8 megabyte JPG. I actually had to shrink the jpg in Photoshop in order to squeeze in under ImageBam’s 10 MB limit to host the image. The photo is 5.3” x 3.4” at 720 dpi, which converts to 12” x 7.5” at 300 dpi - big and beautiful. Etsy stores advertising “300 dpi” vintage images are usually scanned at the original size of less than 3” x 5” - a huge missed opportunity to capture and appreciate the real image quality on today’s beautiful retina-resolution computer and tablet screens. If you would like to see the original 29 MB TIFF of this image in all its glory, message me and I can send you a link. *** Many thanks to the group of moderators who've been so patient with me as a newb here, offering support and advice. You folks rock! |
