The police were very active in the 60s & 70s in G.B.
A lot I see mentioned here in the way of magazines certainly came from abroad-but the H.M.Customs were active also.Stopping this stuff flooding the country through the ports.All round,it was a police state at the time.
Living through it one experienced the daily turmoil of knowing which way to turn.You lived on a knife edge of,was it right,or was it wrong what you photographed.

My speculation is that Toco used Joan since they already had a model using the name Jane Paul.

I wonder what Joan/Jane Paul's real name was, chaps? Talking of girls spreading their talents around, I recently enjoyed a classic British film made in 1960 called The League of Gentlemen. It's an absolute gem, featuring a galaxy of stars from that era including Jack Hawkins and Brian Forbes. There is a scene where Brian Forbes' character is leaving a girl in a taxi and I know she featured in early S&S. She's uncredited in the film so I don't know her name but I'm convinced I've seen her in S&S somewhere. Most annoying! Has anyone else seen her and know who I mean? Nick
