I generally like the Marvel characters and the scientific background of the Marvel series. Scientific background? Just read James Kakalios' book 'The Physics Of The Superheroes'.

Two favs:

Spider-Man ...

because I simply like and own spiders since my childhood.

The Hulk ...

because of his incredible power (and the ambivalence of the character Hulk/Banner)!

My favorite Marvel characters were The Thing, Capt. America, Iron Man and The Human Torch. Over at DC my faves were Batman and Robin, The Flash and The Green Arrow. I also liked Archie comics. I was (and still am) very much the Jughead type (a doofus with a serious hamburger addiction).

Default Super-absence

Funny with so many movies, serials, TV shows etc that Superman has not made an appearance on this thread.
Could it be that he was just too powerful? On the DC side I always preferred Batman and Green Arrow, as I preferred my comic book characters to have a few chinks in their armour. I only bought a few Superman comics, largely depending on who the villain was.
There's no doubting the overall staying power of Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster's creation but maybe he is just too omnipotent for readers like myself.
I plan on getting hold of some of the DC Showcase reprints of Superman, the Justice League of America and Legion of Super-Heroes in any case to give him another chance.

Default Superman

I can suggest a couple of Superman books to try Wendigo give Red Son a go written by Mark Miller a very different take on the Superman story and also The Nail 1 and 2 by Alan Davis and Mark Farmer this has just about every DC hero and villan in both books.

Cheers diablo, I was going to look at Red Son which has Superman brought up in communist Russia and not the American heartlands. I will give The Nail books a go too.
