nor any attempt of - using the utterly obvious and effective theme - the bodies of the saints in Eastern Orthodox Church (sacred relics) which are analogous to mummies - dead bodies unburied or exhumed (and frequenly dismembered - o,my god! - with the aim of distribution) and logically they could have behaved the same dreadful and funny manner as their Egyptian colleagues in horror films taboo ? Inner self-censorship ?

You're absolutely right - and fair too as I see that a hostile opinion against another's irreligious [and possibly sacriligious] suggestion has been deleted. When I was a lad my Catholic friends told us that the local parish priest regularily felt up the better looking altar boys - would that count as sex in in church - as it's called in the Vatican, "Sex Cathedra" Last edited by otokonomidori; January 24th, 2011 at 09:20 PM.. |

Aside from the obvious things like weddings & funerals, I've only been inside a church once of my own free will. I was about 10 years old & I filled my water gun with Holy Water because I was playing a made-up game of Vampire Hunter. I spent a lot of time as a kid inventing games to play & I didn't have any garlic so...
Needless to say the priest who caught me wasn't very pleased at all. He seemed to try to cast me to Hell on the spot. He knew my father & told him what I had done. I was shaking in my boots, because my dad was a devout Catholic when he was a child. He was in the choir & an alter boy at his Catholic School. After listening to everything the priest had to say, he told the man he would take care of it when we got home. Once we got home, my dad asked me what would possess me to do that? I told him I was playing Vampire Hunter & I needed Holy Water to kill the vampires. He cracked up laughing & made me have a beer with him. Don't get me wrong though, he didn't have to twist my arm too much. I still don't know why I didn't get my butt whipped for that one. |

We can play in a different way for example : Whilst the Nazism has done many terrible things, don't throw the baby out with the bath water. This is a really good formula

As a watchtower slave I nip down to the Kingdom Hall every Friday to pick up the books I need to sell to keep in with my fellow JW acolytes. I knock on so many doors my knuckles are raw and if my nose was any bigger it would have been broken before now by a slamming door.
As dreams go, I much prefer the one of me in a threesome with Christina Schwartz and Barbara Legrand ... |

I sometimes (not often) visit cathedrals to look at the architecture. I'm prepared to go into a church for a wedding or a funeral. I don't take religious beliefs seriously at all, so have no other reason to visit a church.
I can't say I have, but I did view hardcore pornography on a little Internet tablet in Durham Cathedral a couple of years ago, as a mark of disrespect for the superstition that gave rise to it. |

I don't agree that this is casuist or a "play on words". My own belief is that religion is a double edged weapon and is often invoked for evil deeds, but I would never oppose someone else's faith or lack of it. Aren't we all seekers? So it's not a play on words to distinguish religion, an instrument of social control which is frequently perverted to vile uses, and faith, which is personal to each of us alone. All worthwhile religions are founded on our duty to love one another as ourselves, surely? Thats the baby not to be thrown out with the bathwater. Nazism was founded on our supposed duty to only love people who resemble us and to hate everybody perceived as different. It's seems a loaded and perjorative and unjust argument to me. I don't see how it was ever intended to be fair. I'm asking for this conversation to stay friendly. Again.

Thanks scounds, I think I'm gonna like this thread As a Catholic, Of course I attend Mass, About once a month even though I'm semi forced to go. If I don't attend I know I wont be getting fed Sunday lunch by she who must be obeyed I must admit I don't mind going there now, I like seeing ladies dressed up nice I'll also add this, As a young boy I was a alter boy and had no bad experiences apart from the odd getting my ear pulled real hard as punishment for being mischevious for which if my dad knew I'd have gotten far worse than having my ear pulled. I served a Father who was real cool as far as priests go, he rode a Harley Davidson of all things. I liked him, still do
