Two Cents Worth
The IV problem is what is... or hopefully what it was.
IV is the only hosting service I've ever used to post 10s of 1,000s of images. Many, many, many posted prior to 5/24 are still missing and because I've posted so many over the year(s) the loss is staggering. Because of my volume I chose not to copy to disc or backup. So, the images are not recoverable or replaceable. Whatever... it is what it is and time to move on, continuing to post and add to the VEF treasury. |

If there is a downside its "how many people bothered to use a thread-stripper, and are they willing to re-up?"
I know I can replace most of my missing material which isn't much I'll admit (I rarely use IV). I can also probably help rebuild a few threads that I've stripped if need be. It'll look weird because there will be lots of posts with orphan content and a flood of posts from a couple of members replacing material. Then you have to think about the mods job of sniffing duplicates in each thread. That could easily be a trainwreck if several members converge on a thread to rebuild it. Depending on how bad the data loss is (still remains to be seen) this might need to be a forum-wide project. Perhaps as a suggestion, assigning a member to each thread or a few threads to organize the sorting of material going back up would help alleviate duplicate postings and make the mods life easier.... :shrugs: Quote:

Same here. I have 55 pages of folders with IV. All VEF stuff. I still have most (but by no means all) of these images somewhere on disk, but re-uploading the lot will be a nightmare.

It appears the images are slowly coming back. There are posts where some images are complete and some are sort of checkerboard in nature. Even on a reload, some images in the same post that were not there initially will appear again. I am sure it will take time but it seems like its slowly flickering back on.

As to why or who does it really doesnt matter
99% of the shit that happens is due to little more than those looking to make money trying to take down their rivals. I'm fairly sure it was IV that was mentioned as being a host to avoid if you were posting family friendly content because the advertising didnt discriminate....I never tested it myself but one moderator on VEF has said the same thing several times. The idea of using / reporting kiddie porn to take down all manner of adult hosting sites by those with financial motives isnt new...theres a well known site that targetted filehosts and the rumours were it uploaded dubious content to them and then reported it to the financial partners of these sites. Was very successful until it took on Mr back from the dead kim dot com latest host and then it strangely ceased its assault - presumably its funding from a very large streaming tube / website owner ceased - so it scaled back its operation. Its actually a useful site to know which filehosts to avoid like the plague Anonym zu stopfilelockers.com/ These wars are ongoing...its why those using malicious malware take over people computers that are then used to attack rival sites with DDOS attacks. As to where VEf go from here...wait for a message from Admin I know one of our sister forums is waiting till Monday before they react Presumably they want to give the imagehost enough time to restore as much as possible and then judge the scale of the mess Its hard to believe an imagehost would say everything is fine before this date when clearly it isnt I suspect its going to be similar to when a major filehost has gone down Given you have dead posts with no sign of what content was within might be smart for those that are going to re-up to add-in a pic first up with a message. Unlike when the filehosts went down and you had caps left with text and scene descriptions image posts because theres no requirements for a text description are essentially dead zones full of invisible bbcodes. As I said during the umpteen filehosts dieing adding a simple message in a signature as to where you stand is very useful for all who come across your posts. Really helps to slow down the PM requests which can become like an avalanche. No shame in saying I give my permission for anyone to re-up my posts or what ever your intending to do. As they say many hands make light work and from memory all the other major crashes were followed more or less by all and sundry re-upping though this does feel different as the scale is far larger in my estimation. Where IV is slightly different from, say, imgbox is that IV's URLs contain somewhere in the middle the original file name. So, if I find a dead icon I can search my hard drive for that file, to see whether I kept it. |

Fortunately (luck more than anything) I have used Imagebam as my go to for years. The images IB rejects I have filled in using IV.
It's pretty scary though - this same kind of thing could happen to IB. As Buttsie suggested, I am going to continue with my 2 hosts and cross my fingers. I am hoping for the best for all of the IV users. Hopefully IV can restore more if not all that was lost. |

Google Analytics (GA) is one of biggest data analyzing companies worldwide. Any tv flatscreen with internet option (and therefore own internet IP) can be external activated via cable or glass fibre connection (without internet contract by you). Switch on tv your device reports without your knowledge anything happens at screen... (Let's hope you have no integrated cam to use screen for live chat...) At Germany all channels of so-called public-right free tv are not controlled by GA but all channels at free privat tv. GA analyzes deatailed behaviour of watchers and reports to tv station companies. Of course GA gets paid for its services. Btw: Be not surprised to find offers about subjects at your mail box or wherever (twitter etc.) you watched yesterday evening at tv. Btw: Google 'Google Analytics' you get lots of links to friendly or at least neutral articles and reports. To block such trackers (Google Analytics isn't the only one) at Firefox these Add-ons are useful: - DoNotTrackMe (to block tracker) - google-no-tracking-url (to block redirect) - Facebook Blocker (Like button) You have to know without blocking Facebook Like button at any website with this button lots of data about any website you opened are send to FB, too. No clicking of Like button neccessary. Anybody implementing this embedded FB feature at his/her website(s) should know it, too. At moment of writing this post DoNotTrackMe reports 2 trackers blocked (without additional blocked FB Like button feature): - Facebook Connect - Google Analytics _____ Note for mods: maybe this post should moved to another thread? Didn't found fitting thread.

Hacker's attack
I guess some hacker(s) decided to attack Imagevenue after they were accused of providing links to underage stuff.

by pure chance, I chose IV to be my host when I started posting and I stuck with them by habit, although I stopped liking their service long time ago. good thing this has happened. it was the last straw and I`m finally dropping them.
I`m using imgtwist on PS for a year, so most of my pics are backed up there. user friendly, good service, by far superior to imgbam or p&h . any chance we can have them allowed ? it would save me a tone of downloading/reuploading images and kept me in my comfort zone using the familiar and trusted host. |
