Default Question for non American members: do you have more or less respect for the US since Trump's election?

Even though I was born in West Germany, I'm an American citizen and currently ashamed to say or write that. Because of our current President, Donald Trump.

One thing he, his administration and oultets like Fox news keep shouting/bleating/putting out is that since Trump became President the United States is much more respected and liked around the world than when Obama was President.

Given what I've read and seen about how Trump was welcomed in England, that balloon baby was a brilliant touch, as well as what happened at the UN recently and what world leaders have said in not so private moments, I think Trump and Fox news are full of shit.

But what about all y'all who don't live in the US, do you have more or less respect for the US since Trump took office? If you could say what country you're from as well that'd be swell.

Oh, and if I think I'm a horrible person for saying Trump is full of shit, knock yourself out, staying within forum rules of course.

Thanks.

I know some Australians who think Trump is the greatest thing since sliced bread and wish that we had politicians like him, but it isn't a mainstream view.
As for myself, I think Trump is a bumbling, stumbling joke, but I also think that in the world of realpolitik any impact he has will be transitory. Behind the scenes, America's standing isn't really seriously impacted.

Trump is a perfect example of the madness of this world however his straight talking & attitude that one should make one's own country a priority perhaps helped him get elected. It is a shame that he has no idea how to behave & is usually embarrassing to watch as is the leader of my own country (UK) which may soon elect a clown (Boris Johnson) to be Prime Minister!!!!

Every decision revolving around how much profit is in it.

Less respect - but only for the people who cannot accept the fact that he won!

Much less respect.

Whatever I used to think slightly odd about our American cousins, at least I felt that ultimately they stood for some decent standards - rule of law, freedom of the press etc.

Trump has eroded all that and we now see someone who is basically a Twitter troll of no fixed ability appealing to the lowest common denominator.

The problem is not confined to America by any means - but as it is the world's leading superpower, it is very worrying to see that sort of behaviour becoming the norm.

Spot on Bloke. Earlier I though that it wouldn't really impact on America's world standing, but that was before the man nailed his true colours to the mask and lots of people saluted them. The America the Western World needs in these perilous times seems to have gone AWOL.

Why would I have less respect.

The majority of Americans voted for the other lady!

The answer is in your question: Trump and his followers + FOX (who can also be seen as his followers) are the ones who proclaim that the USA is more respected and liked since he became president. All others will tell you the exact opposite of this statement, in other words: the truth.

Trump is seen as a joke. As a sociopath. Sometimes when I see a media report about the latest Trump scandal (and we have these on a weekly basis, at least!), I still can't believe he actually IS the man who was put in charge!

Worse than when Bush Jr. was voted (even when he was re-elected after 4 years of lies, corruption, senseless war, cover-ups, etc.), most people in Western European countries are now looking at the American people instead of at the man they elected king, after all: 51% of the voters wanted him in power. 51%.

Should we blame the 1 guy in office? Or should we blame the 51% who put him there????
I think this is the biggest change in the way Europeans think since before Obama: the voters (the Americans) are to blame, and much less Trump himself (being the narcissistic psycho he has been all his life).

In short: Americans are much less respected and liked for actually giving Trump all this power.

Trump

I have no real opinion of him, don't like or dislike him.
All I see is sore losers, much like here and our revolving door of PM's in the last decade.

Republicans tried fucking up Bill Clinton with his blow job scandals and Whitewater,
Democrats were sore losers over the Al Gore loss and Florida voting card thing

Republicans went out of their way to fuck up Obama, who to me seemed the most moral of recent Presidents.

Now it's Trumps turn who hasn't stood a chance from day one with those what I'd call disgraceful protests

That's what I can tell as an outsider and might be wrong,
It's the public that does it, it's also about time the public let their elected leaders got on with a job instead of sidetracking to gutter politics.
