I hate the homeless

I was approached by a homeless bloke, asking for 50p for a cup of tea..
so I gave him a quid, and asked him to get me one..

I haven't heard of anyone hunting the homeless since a pair of teenagers in the 80's shot one with a homemade rocket.

I do hear that they kill each other with knives and many are found dead of exposure.

I wouldn't want to be one of those social workers who goes into those camps to check up on them. Way too many crazies in the crowd.

Not sure what the above post has to do with the homeless...? But back to the topic...

I'm back working with the homeless again; & have to admit it doesn't make me like them any more than those members who just step over them in the street.... Some of them deserve to be without hope, as they just don't want to waste any effort helping themselves in the first place. Just wasting my breath even trying to help them, but it pays okay.

That is total horsecrap! Fact!!

The split is more likely 20/80. The killer for most of them is in fact to do with addiction. Addiction to alcohol, drugs, or other illicitly found products. Mamba; which was once a legally sold fish tranquiliser; is the current major issue with those on the streets. It takes very little of the stuff to have them in another world from our own. In time that may lead to mental problems for some of them that survive the obvious problem of dying from just one use or continued overuse, but not for the most part.

That's been my experience in 40 years of working in the housing and property world.

I described a bad meeting I had with an old friend in the "drinking tonight" thread. My friend is on LinkedIn - looking for all the world the capable, intelligent and successful finance wizard he once was.

But he has always suffered from depression, paranoia and probably a few other things.

Now he is homeless - crashing with his ex-wife when she will put up with him. A broken man who, I discovered, appears to have fallen into a crack habit. I'd like to help but I really cannot do so in current circumstances. He has family but I am afraid to say that they are most likely the cause of his instability. (i.e. I would not give his crap parents an ounce of respect).
