The Colbert you see on screen is a part he plays, apparently not his actual personality. The character he plays is, basically, a combination of Bill O'Reilly, Rush Lumpbaugh and several other authoritarian conservative personalities. So it does take a while to understand what he's up to. Hope that helps a little bit. |

I'd think even our best might be equal to the chevy chase disaster of a show Doug Mulray straight from radio might have got the gong if not hung out to dry with a 9pm slot from memory and 9's Mick Molloy and friends disaster typical of free to air networks grasping for straws. Doug Mulray http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kVUaTrvdDdk Tony Martin on the Mick Molloy Show (show lasted 8 weeks) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Mick_Molloy_Show http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DXJmZ6cPRT8 |

We get US late night shows, but no one I know realizes they're at least a week late. They could probably be a year late, and they still wouldn't know
Almost no one knows who they're talking about either (including me). If you ask someone about say, Donald Trump, they ask "You mean the TV Presenter?" |

I usually think of Donald Trump as the only casino owner ever who went bankrupt.

I'm indifferent to the other hosts because I never watched them and for the last few years I've noticed I need more rest and have been retiring earlier or if I do have the energy I'd rather do something else. |

The James Whale Radio Show.
In the UK back in days of yore, when TVs were CRT, this was the sh*t James has his own thread: http://vintage-erotica-forum.com/t11...mes-whale.html |

Gee whiz
No one mentioned the Ferguson. I think Craig's show is fresh, irreverent, and usually but not always very funny. Now I must admit that I only came across him about a year ago and I am sorry I missed all the years prior. Plus most of the posters here seem to be from the UK and you don't watch him or maybe you don't get him?
I forgot to mention the name of his show here- The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson. Last edited by SanteeFats; April 17th, 2014 at 10:40 PM.. Reason: Add info |

Though much depends on his guests, specifically young women, who often really light up when they're with him. Gets terrific, playful, responses from Kristen Bell, Mila Kunis, Rashida Jones, and the sweetly unaffected Ariel Tweto. Week in Paris a fun break, especially dinners with Bell and Jean Reno. The Scotland shows had their moments, but were often, IMO, a slog. Love dancing with the panto-horse & female staffers at the opening of the interview segment. Fun moment: after winning the $50 in singles, Jim Parsons getting up & tossing all of the bills to the audience. Letterman was once by far (IMO) the most original and interesting thing on late night. Stupid Pet & Human Tricks; jumping at the Velcro wall in his matching coveralls; off-the-wall visitors: Brother Theodore, Pee Wee Herman before he had his own show. Occasionally MEAN interviews with the mainstream guests (Cher once called him an asshole, on air). Surprising, frequently innovative, often discomfiting... very seldom dull. These days everything Dave does seems like it came out of a rusty, bulging tin can... opened with a hisssss, long past it's expiration date. Dick Cavett had consistently the best guests of any show, for his time, I can remember: Groucho, John Huston, Bette Davis, Jimi Hendrix, Orson Welles, John & Yoko, Hitchcock, Katharine Hepburn, Anthony Burgess, "Bear" Bryant, Georgia Gov. Lester Maddox (who walked out), George Harrison, Janis Joplin, Jerzy Kosinski, John Gielgud, Jonathan Miller, Marc Connelly, Robert Hughes, Stephen Spender, Alice Coltrane & Rasaan Roland Kirk, Sophia Loren & Marcello Mastroianni, Germaine Greer, Masters & Johnson, Ray Bradbury, Alberta Hunter, Billy Wilder, Arthur Miller, Fellini & Mastroianni, G. Gordon Liddy, Ingrid Bergman, Jacques Cousteau, Jean-Luc Goddard, Joseph Heller, Phil Silvers, Alan Ginsberg... Best interviewer of them all, perhaps... though he did tend to fawn a lot.
