Just for the avoidance of doubt, I wouldn't give India steam from my piss. Any country with either a space program or nuclear weapons doesn't need foreign aid. Aid programs to bring clean water and electricity to remote villages and to the many urban slums in India I would still support, but not a penny piece to pass anywhere near a official agency of the Indian government. If the Indian government did anything to interfere with private charities working with the British government then I'd turn that tap off as well.

We actually have rules about not using foreign aid to promote trade deals. I remember this from when Mrs Thatcher wanted to shove £238 million 1989s value UK sterling at the Malaysian government to build an expensive and highly environmentally unsound dam, but contingent on securing a very lucrative arms deal. It turned out that this is illegal, in the sense of flashing blue lights, bracelets, and long vacation time at The Queen's Hotel. The story came to light because the civil servant in charge of staff at the Overseas Development Administration refused to sign the contract without a written order from a senior Minister which it turned out that no senior Minister wanted to risk writing. So while we all know it goes on, linking foreign aid to trade deals is covered by the 11th Commandment - "Thou shalt not get caught dirty."

....a wise and long standing dictum-which Prince Bernhardt of the Netherlands conveniently forgot some years ago....

Mr Putin told us they were friends of his, so we let them go. We wouldn't want to drink any moody cups of tea.

But hey, that's the ironic beauty of Brexit: Those who voted Leave to save the NHS will get the opposite.
Didn't score an own goal as I see it, nor was I claiming any moral high ground. Just merely asked the question.

Default Porsche warns UK customers of Brexit price rise

Porsche is warning UK customers they might have to pay 10% extra for cars delivered after Britain leaves the EU.

The German firm wants buyers to sign a clause agreeing to a potential tariff, a move Porsche said is "precautionary".

Porsche's owner Volkswagen declined to discuss if some of its other brands, including Audi, Lamborghini, Skoda, Bugatti, Seat, and Ducati might follow.

A 10% surcharge would see the cost of an entry-level Porsche 911 rising from £93,110 to £102,421.

The company's Macan sports utility and Boxster models start at about £46,000.

Stuttgart-based Porsche said in an emailed statement to the BBC: "As one potential outcome of the Brexit negotiations, there is a possibility that a duty of up to 10% may be applied to cars imported into the UK by us after March 29.

"In light of this, we have chosen to inform customers whose cars are likely to arrive after Brexit occurs to warn them that they may be affected by this tariff - allowing them to be fully informed at the point of sale and, if they wish, to adjust their order accordingly.

"This is a precautionary step in the interests of allowing our customers to plan ahead."

Bloomberg, which first reported the news, quoted Porsche as saying that it needed "comprehensive clarity" on future UK relations with "the EU very quickly"
