Default Sex scenes and nudity becoming less common on TV

It seems to be that in the past nudity and sex scenes were more common on TV especially during the 1980s. In the thread where members ask if any images are available from nude scenes from TV programmes, I noticed a lot of these programmes come from the 1980s. I recall that programmes with full frontal nudity and sex scenes were often not hidden away in late night slots but shown on programmes which started after 9.00 pm which is a prime time slot on both BBC and ITV. I can not imagine this being done today and my impression is that nudity and sex scenes are now far less common on TV today and I can not recall any programmes made in recent years on the main channels with explicit sexual scenes. I would like to ask members of this board if they feel the same.

First you'd have to make sure you're talking about the same country. I gather from your post you're talking about programs in the UK. The US has much stricter laws about nudity on publicly broadcast TV.

Couldn't agree more. I miss all the BBC period dramas where nudity was the norm and the actresses weren't the stick insects that we now have to put up with.

E.g. Kate Nelligan in Therese Racquin.

The only sex scenes that are becoming more common on tv these days are gay ones.Just watch any soap or torchwood for that matter. The PC brigade and are clearly showing that the lunatica have taken over the asylum.

I agree with the OP.

The 1980s were my teenage years, and I fondly remember that for reasons I won't bore you with I had used to spend Sunday evening staying with my grandparents, and seemingly every week there would bea drama that at worse featured a topless scene and if I wsa lucky a full frontal instead.

It would usually be trailed in the papers as well, to increase the anticipation!
