I've been laying low, junk food-wise. I had my gallbladder removed last month and I've got to ease back into the good stuff very slowly. One thing I've discovered is baked chips suck. I've tried Baked Lay's, Baked Doritos and Baked Ruffles. They all blow. Some things have to be deep fried in (delicious) fat and chips are among them. I ate a Kit Kat today, it was my first chocolate in a month. So far, so good. Has anyone else been through this? How long before you could eat the tasty stuff again?

My Dr wants my gallbladder removed. The ultrasound showed one stone the size of a golf ball. Don't fancy going under the knife and not eating the odd junk food.

My Dr. discovered my gallstones two years ago. He told me not to worry, lots of people go their whole lives with gallstones with no problems. It's only when they start bothering you that surgery is suggested. They only started bothering me a couple of months ago. I ended up in an emergency room with major pain in my stomach and the right side of my chest. I was also hyperventilating and vomiting. That's when my Dr. said "It's time". Good luck with yours, BB.

I'd heard that, too. But in my case, the first few times it flared up, it felt like nothing more than a good old fashioned tummy ache, the kind you got as a kid. Then I went a month and a half with no problems at all. It was the last time when it started hurting really bad. Then I knew it was more than just overdoing the french fries.

I had my gallbladder removed a couple years ago. I dealt with flare-ups on and off for years. Sometimes it would just be a mild gut-ache other times it would be a doozy that hurt like heck and the only thing you could do was wait it out.
Finally I had an attack so bad, I had to go to the emergency room. Pain like you wouldn't believe! My gut was hurting, my side was hurting. The pain spread out into my back and into my shoulders. I couldn't get comfortable sitting or standing or laying down. If it weren't for the pain-meds at the hospital and I had a gun, I'd have used the gun. That's how bad the pain was. Afterwards it took a couple months, then I was able to eat whatever the heck I wanted. No more attacks. Yeah they told me not to eat certain things but I don't pay much attention to that. You can't eat like a trash-compactor as a regular diet and expect not to have any issues, gallbladder or not. But sans-gallbladder I can really indulge with no fear of an attack.

sounds like a morphine job, ouch! My ex boss has gallbladder problems. His consultant told him they can't operate until he loses 5 stones. He's a fatty guy, but not losing weight. I saw him in agony one day at his desk, he was vomiting and squealing in pain.

I'm wondering if there should be a separate cooking thread or maybe keep it here? What do you think?

Off topic from what?
I responded to the gallbladder posts as they related to junkfood consumption. (and getting it removed is not the end of junk food consumption. It is a new lease on indulging without much fear.) I think the cooking posts can exist here nicely. Though a diversion into different territory happens once and a while, it is all interconnected. I suggest it all stays here. However, BB it's your thread.
