Attention: There is a prevalent email scam happening everywhere where the sender claims to have a password to a site and demands money in some form. Ignore it, do not respond and at most change passwords on any sites you frequent.

Effective immediately, moving or animated GIFs are not allowed in signatures. If your signature has one, please remove or replace it asap. Staff will remove them as and when we see them without notice.

Sincerest apologies to everyone for the recent blackout. VEF and several of our sister forums had a major server malfunction. The database index is being rebuilt from scratch and may take at least several days to be fully restored. Expect major weirdness and lots of glitches in the meantime. Thank you all for your patience and understanding.

Unfortunately it seems that all of the posts made from the 13th March until the crash are permanently lost, please feel free to re-post any such material, apologies for this.

Most of your devices you won't need to worry about. The most likely components you will need to go in search of are network adapters (both wifi and wired), video, and audio. There are free auditing apps that will give you a list of all the devices on your computer. Free PC Audit is one such app. If you're not dead set on getting Windows 8, I'd go with Windows 7. The chances of having drivers for windows 7 is excellent. If, however, you're set on Win8, but cannot find Windows 8 drivers, Win 7 drivers might work. It will be trial and error. Find the latest drivers Win 7 drivers for each particular device. Win7 ran acceptably well on a 6 year old Compaq Laptop that has a 2GB maximum memory.
