I guess next on their journey was hiking in Iran and North Korea.

Probably would have complained to their killers that they were being stereotypical. At least they were run over and not shot, or someone would be blaming the NRA for murder in Tajikistan.

Since most people murdered in the US have criminal records and these two didn't, I would disagree with you. And since we live in the "recently", I don't see your point.

Generally speaking, yes. But the IRA was also made up of Communists, Atheists, and other non-Catholic elements, the common goal being getting rid of the British and unity with the Republic.

Interestingly, the most vocal on both sides of the divide came from the working-class shitholes.
Mothers who would allow their children to be 'Human shields' whilst IRA gunmen would fire on army foot patrols, the same mothers who would scream abuse and spit on soldiers in the street, and the same mothers who would smuggle guns under their children whilst pushing them along in their prams.

Contrast that with the middle-class IRA members who would politely nod and even exchange pleasantries with British soldiers, yet still harbour the same murderous intent of their working-class comrades.
