I think there are two main reasons:

- competition ($$): the most outstanding/extreme/depraved stuff sells (see the craze with the ugly silicone boobs, no matter how bad it looks it's gotta be huge)

- movements like feminism, metrosexuality, gendermainstreaming etc. destroy the traditional role models of man/woman and thus destroy cultural identity, family and society. The violence is a reaction of the men who can't cope having their authority, their position undermined by emancipated women. It's compensation.
