“I am very fond of him”

PAGE THREE stunner Janine Andrews yester-
day revealed how she began the beguine
with heart-throb singer Julio Iglesias.
As she flew to India to take part in the new
James Bond film, Octopussy, she admitted:
“I’m very fond of him,”
blonde Janine said she had been
whisked off her feet by the world’s top-selling male
singer.
She added coyly: “It’s
not something I have
spoken about before, be-
cause it’s very personal
between Julio and me.”
Lovely Janine, 22, met
the handsome millionaire
while modeling in Spain
last year.

Lucky Julio, 37, whose
version of Begin The
Beguine topped Britain’s
charts immediately asked
her to fly to Canada on a
tour.
Janine said: “It was
Champagne and caviar all
the way on the plane. I
was on cloud nine.
“I was with Julio for a
week while he sang in
Toronto and Montreal and
it was one of the best
Times of my life.
“My mum has all his
records and is his No. 1
fan.
“When I phoned her
and said ‘Guess who I’m
with?’ – and then told
her-she was so pleased.
Career
“Julio made sure I had
a seat right in the middle
of the front row during
his shows so he could see
me.”
Janine added: “Julio
wanted me to join him in
Australia afterwards, but
I couldn’t get a visa in
time.
“I was so disappointed,
but he promised to call
me on his return to
Europe.
When the Spanish
Romeo called, Janine
already had an important
modelling assignment
booked.
She said: “Julio asked
me to Ibiza for a month,
but I decided my career
had to come first.
“Later he invited me
to Miami but again I was
modelling.
“I know Julio under-
stands because he knows
how important my job is
to me.”
Janine is determined to
return from India in time
for the singer’s British
tour next month.
She pledged: “I’m not
going to miss him for the
world this time. He’s very,
very special.”

BACK TO lighter topics, here’s a
photo of me and our 1982 Covergirl of
the Year, Janine Andrews. Normally
based in London, Janine was in Sydney
to promote the movie Octopussy in
which she plays one of James Bond’s
glamerous foes.
This photo is one of a series being
used to blackmail me. No, you can’t see
the others, but you can see our feature
on pages 8-9-10… if envious
artists and sub-editors haven’t walked
off the job.

Janine hopes for fame as a singer but
she’s always topped our hit parade



PEOPLE’S Covergirl of the Year in
1982, Janine Andrews, who
rocketed to international stardom as a
Bond girl, will return to Australia next
year as a support act to the Bay City
Rollers.
Janine appeared in Roger Moore’s
latest 007 epic, Octopussy, as a sexy,
red-suited guard on an island inhabited
only by women (and the odd British
Secret Service agent).
Thrilled but surprised by her
covergirl title, Janine said
modestly: “Was I really
first choice? But all those girls
on the cover are so beautiful.”
Janine’s family in Birmingham
keeps a scrapbook of her international
career. She has a boyfriend but she
maintains that the romance is “nothing
serious”.
At 23, she has just launched her first
Album, Diamond Eyes, in Japan. In
Sydney Janine was presented with
Copies of PEOPLE by Editor David
Naylor.

She plans to move from modeling to
acting and singing, but as long as
producers like Cuby Broccoli have the
sense to cast her in sensual Bond-type
roles, Janine’s physical talents won’t be
lost to her large army of admirers.
“I loved doing Octopussy,” said
Janine. “I was off to India as soon as I
was auditioned. It was magnificent, so
exotic.”
Janine was just an impressionable
teenager when she took a shot at
London’s ruthless modelling industry
and hit the top. “I never got a job doing
anything else,” she said. “It would have
restricted me from getting parts on
screen and developping my singing.”
She will concentrate on becoming a
“well-known singer”, she said. But that
doesn’t rule out more movies. “I want to
do everything possible,” she says with a
smile.
Has being a Bond girl changed her
Life? “We all seem to notice we’re
getting more attention these days,” she
grinned.

Janine is married with former Bay City Roller Pat McGlynn. They live in Edinborough, Scotland, and have an eight year old daughter, Mia.
The Pat McGlynn Band (pics from 1996) is this year on Tour in Japan, as I read in this article from 21st August 2008:



Offbeat producing new Pat McGlynn Album
Started Pat McGlynn’s album on Thursday 21st August for BMG in Japan. The album is due for release in November. Pat’s been busy recording demos for the past while and has amassed a bunch of great new tracks. His partner and singer Janine Andrews will be singing lead vocals on the album. Pat is a great Bass Player and Guitarist and was a star in Japan before and after he joined the Rollers. He also wrote songs for Sonya back in the 90’s.
I met Pat in 1984 after recording my Zed album when I recorded and co-wrote tracks with him and Les McKeown and Eric Faulkner for a Bay City Rollers revival album. We spent a Summer at Wilf Smarties Planet Studios in Broughton St, Edinburgh. Wilf was the producer who discovered Wet Wet Wet and produced their demo ‘Wishing I Was Lucky’, the single that broke the band.
The tracks were never released following a spectacular break up (also a kind of revival) but the songs were eventually signed to Stiff Music in 1985. After that I recorded and co-wrote another series of songs with Les and Pat at Palladium Studios with engineer/producer Jon Turner with Jons ex wife Ann Turner on backing vocals.
Pats new deal in Japan sees the release of two albums he recorded in the late 70’s as well as the new album. A band will be formed to tour in Japan following the release of this album.

Duran – has revealed
how the pop idol
popped the question.
“It was really
romantic,” said Page

right. “He proposed to
me opposite the Eiffel
Tower in Paris.
“And the greatest
thing about being
engaged is that I need
that sort of commitment
…especially when
John is travelling all
over the world on his
own, with lots of oppor-
tunities with other
girls!”
Janine, who appeared
in the Bond film Octo-
pussy, hasn’t fixed a
date for a wedding yet.
and she says children
will definitely have to
wait until she has
finished her career.
the couple first dated
briefly in their home
town of Birmingham
three years ago.
“then we met again
in Australia when I was
promoting Octopussy.
and we just hit it off
again immediately,” said
Janine, 23.
Problem
Her only problem is
the girl fans who
scramble to get near
heart-throb John.
“I’ve had girls push
me aside to get at him,”
she said.
Janine’s a big ambition
now is to be a singer
herself, and she
admits: “I want to be
successful and have my
own money in the
bank…and I won’t
let anyone get in my
way.”
