Oh gawd, so hard to choose just one. If just one - Wile E Coyote. (Especially when he talks with Bugs Bunny e.g. 'Operation Rabbit').

Then? Daffy Duck, Marvin the Martian (I've only got to say 'Oh goody, my triludium q36 space mod-u-latorrrrr' and the g/f cracks up), Tasmanian Devil, Sylvester and Tweety together.. and Yosemite Sam.

A special 'one off' vote for Michigan J. Frog

The one character I can't stand is - Road Runner. Smug little git...

Didn't Chuck Jones once say "Bugs Bunny is who we want to be; Daffy Duck is who we really are" ?

All of the characters ... well most of them ... were great and I could choose a different favourite with every new thought.

However, there are three "characters" that I believe are extremely noteworthy but usually forgotten: The backgrounds. The sound effects. The music--especially Carl Stalling's. These were absolutely great in the Looney Tunes/Merry Melodies and made complete the other characters, the roles they played, and the plots they acted.

For example, I can watch these cartoons with only the music and no other sounds or voices and the whole story is there! Most of the stories of the Road Runner and Wile E. Coyote are told by the music, sound effects, and background.

Modern animation fails all of these basic building blocks almost entirely (even most of the basic animation is missing except in big-budget cartoons/movies) and I believe it suffers tremendously from this lack.

Watch and listen. I bet you'll enjoy what's there.

Staffsyeoman stole my thunder and my choice of Wile E. Coyote - Genius. My favorite looney tunes ever. Foghorn Leghorn is a close second for me.

My favorite character of course would be the immortal Bugs Bunny.

Nothing more need be said.

Daffy Duck - "I can't help it. I'm a greedy slob. It's my hobby."

Foghorn Leghorn - "That boy's about as sharp as a bowling ball."

Martian - "Being disintegrated makes me furious!"

I like a few characters, but I'd have to say Bugs Bunny is my favourite. Followed by Daffy, Foghorn and Marvin.

Bugs (singing): I dream of Jeannie she's a light brown hare!

Bugs: I knew I shoulda make a left toin at Albuqoique!

Marvin: The illudium pu36 explosive space modulator! That creature has stolen the space modulator!

Marvin: I claim this planet in the name of Mars! Hmmm, isn't that lovely?

Foghorn: That dog's as subtle as a hand grenade in a barrel of oatmeal

Foghorn: You've gotta be a magician to keep a kid's attention more than two minutes nowadays.

Daffy: I may be a craven little coward, but I'm a greedy craven little coward!

Daffy: Ooooh, that's DAFFY! DAFFY Duck! I can't believe you'd mistake a big star like me for that other duck who can't even talk straight! (A WB jab at Donald Duck)

And of course, the one cartoon where Wile E. Coyote actually speaks in a rather well-to-do voice.

Wile E.: Allow me to introduce myself, my name is Wile E Coyote, Genius. I am not selling anything nor am I working my way through college. And so let's get down to cases. You are a rabbit and I am going to eat you for supper. Now don't try to get away. I am more muscular, more cunning, faster and larger than you are and I'm a genius while you could hardly pass the entrance examinations to kindergarden. So I'll give you the customary 2 minutes to say your prayers.

Wile E: (groggily) Allow me to introduce myself, my name is Mud.
Bugs: And remember, 'mud' spelled backwards is 'dum'.

They are hilarious cartoons.
