Carley Rafts and Ships Boats
These are the Kit carley Life Rafts added - and also the White Resin Ships Boats from the Admiralty Model Works super-detail set -
with the photo-etch that they supplied added ( including Admiralty 1/350 etch propellers and rudders for the boats ) - these are far superior to the kit Trumpeter Ships Boats !! Last edited by 73north; March 6th, 2018 at 08:52 AM.. |

Okay , My HMS Hood Flyhawk detail set arrived from China - I am doing a review for the HMS Hood Association on the detail set (no-one has done it , to date - and they ask for one on the website ) The Brass 1/350 Ensign and Jack Staff's are finally fitted to the Model - these were plundered from the Pontos Detail Set for HMS Prince of Wales - as there is nothing like them , from any aftermarket supplier (Orange Hobby do one for Destroyers in 1/350 scale only ) Please note that the metal circle shown below the Ensign Staff at the Stern is the Aft Recognition Lights ( which were a circle , divided into 3 parts - like a ' CND Symbol ' - so the top light was the white quadrant , Red light was port ( or left side ) and Green was Starboard ( right side ) |

Completed -
I finally got peace this weekend - to take completion photos and re-post 2 ones of the work I did last December , preparing the Ebay bought Silver Pedestals for fitment to the Kit Display Stand ( as I say , to my knowledge , I am the only one who has though of doing this - if I say it myself , its bloody effective ) Note - the huge difference - between the unmade kit and now. Note I used - on the Model Basic Kit very comprehensive and well engineered FlyHawk models photo etch set The Admiralty Modelworks update set that corrects the aft superstructure and also happens to provide some nice resin replacement boats Corrected main turrets from Shapeways Master main gun barrels Infini 20mm Oerlikons Tetra 0.5 Quad guns BigBlueBoy 2pdr pom poms Alliance Modelworks deck vents Artwox wooden decking and anchor chains |

I tried model cars once. I sucked ass painting them and trying to get the pieces of the engine to stay glued together caused me to give up.
Maybe if I had an 1/8th scale model I'd be more successful. XD

LOL - I had the same problem - until someone told me to strip all the chrome parts, build as normal, and paint what you want silver/chrome. And to prime car bodies in a pale grey or off white before putting a color down.

Next Project
This is my next project - its going to be a real difference between my old model built in 1991 , out of the box and the 2018 super-detailed version I intend to create -
This is my Old Model of HMS Prince of Wales by Tamiya ( 1/350 ) - pictured here ( I cringe when I compare this to my latest builds ) Note - the Silk Flag - the only aftermarket item I added to the kit ( I intend to re-use this wonderful flag - which has not aged , and looks far better in the flesh , than my photo suggests ...... and this is the 1986 era Tamiya Kit , which will be vastly improved by the modern super-detail Pontos ( from South Korea ) which gives you 1. Stained Wooden Deck; 2. Scribed Brass 210 parts: 14in Main Barrels x10, 5.25in Barrels x16, 40mm Pompom Barrels x48, 20mm Oerlikon x8 sets, 20in Bitts x22, Vents and so on... 3. Photo Etch: 6 sheets - PE #1 : Common to KGV Class with Rails, Catapult and Crane PE #2 : Common to KGV Class with Deck parts, Reels and Funel parts PE #3 : Common to KGV Class with Boats, Ladders, Doors and others PE #4 : Common to KGV Class with Armaments as 20mm, 40mm and Pompom PE #5 : Common to KGV Class with Radar, Antenna, Mast and others PE #6 : KGV Class other parts 4. Resin Parts: 131pcs; 5. Dry Transfer : 1 Sheet; 6. Instruction Manual - A3 size : 3 Sheets I need to be aware that the Type 279 Radar they include was not fitted to HMS Prince of Wales in December 1941 , and exclude that etch part from the Model , I also intend to source a single 40mm Bofors brass barrel to fit to the Plastic kit part at the stern of the ship - - otherwise this expensive set (£ 130 ) does provide me with everything I need - to make this a world class model Note the surface plastic detailing on the deck of the Tamiya kit has to be totally removed - as it will be replaced by wood decks and aftermarket parts |

Bought this on ebay - for only a few quid
1/350 Big Blue Boy Bofors 40mm Single MG maybe you get 8 sets of these ? - I am delighted to source it anyway , I need it to replace the kit plastic 40mm Bofors gun on the stern of the Tamiya HMS Prince of Wales - so this is going to look really nice and be far more authentic and accurate |
