I will be hugely disappointed if you die before admitting I have a valid point of view on the Bengal Famine; the polonium 210 murder and the Russian strategic war aim in Finland. But on the plus side, these are strong reasons why you need to be immortal and must never even catch a cold.

Well today we heard straight from the horse's or is that Ma(y)[re]'s mouth of what her vision of Brexit really means.
Why is it that I do not believe that 2021 (not 2019 which I signed up for) really means 2021. The simple fact remains (heaven help us) that we could see a totally different Govmnt in 2021 with the voting public being feeling let down by these who-feel-they-still-know-better politicians. Pls Mr Barnier (thought I would never say this) kick this grand plan in to the long grass. If it means is 2019 there is still no common consensus then so be it. |

Today we found out how tall the long grass is that they're going to kick brexit into .
Very tall . They've no intention of delivering it . Like we voted leave in June 16 to be still part of it in 2021 . |

This idea that Britain will not leave, merely because there is a quite a lengthy process involved, is quite widely held. But it is not rooted in the facts.
After all that has happened, I think it would be politically impossible for any British government to sell "Remain" to the people now. Plenty of those who did vote Remain did so with extremely mixed feelings; of course, so did many "Leave" voters, including myself. But the antics of the EU side since then have done nothing to make British people want "ever closer Union". I would never have held the referendum; any decision to hold the referendum would have taken place over my dead body. But once the referendum was called, it became extremely hard to explain what was so fucking good about committing ourselves irrevocably to "ever closer Union" and allowing anyone who had the right of abode anywhere in the EU to come and live here without needing any further permission, and we to be sued in the ECJ if we refused instant allocation of desperately short-supply social housing to strangers when British citizens can't even get on the waiting list. "Ever closer Union" is a betrayal of nationhood and a betrayal of democracy; we have made the correct choice here, but IMHO would have done better to stay in and opt out of the Federalist bullshit and to tear the house down until we were allowed to control immigration once again. The flaw in all this is that my strategy would need British politicians who can be trusted to represent and protect the interests of the British people; and most of them have been ardently selling us down the river for 43 years. The truth is that the referendum verdict was a damning comment on Britain's politicians even more than on the EU itself. The British people chose to take back ownership of their country and to negate the decisions of the politicians who have for a long time failed to represent them. Any attempt to rescind that verdict without another full vote of the population would be incredibly dangerous and even if the desire is there, as it clearly is in some quarters, such as Chuka Umunna or Anthony Lynton Blair, they haven't got the balls.

Oh dear Theresa....
I haven't seen such a car crash of a speech since Sam Fox and Mick Fleetwood did the Brits.... And as for trusting Theresa May's plans for council homes, they can't even plan for a decent conference stage.... Where was their conference held? Fawlty Towers?

Actually, I was not particularly interested in the P45 thing or in Mrs May's sore throat. What I noted was the reversion to emollient noises such as "A Britain which works for everyone" and "Life should be better for the next generation". I can't quite reconcile this with the Dementia Tax and with wanting to re-legalise hunting foxes with hounds. I don't think there is convergence here. It would help me if she could outright state that these were wrong in principle and that she was gravely in error and at fault in endorsing such despicable ideas. But I know better than to think she will ever admit to such mistakes. Her values are at variance with those of most right thinking people and she is mistaken to think these issues have been forgotten about; certainly not by me.
Lets be honest though. Jeremy Corbyn is not someone I would consider voting for under any circumstances whatsoever. He leads a Party which is aching to renege on its position of having (kicking and screaming) submitted to the will of the voters. He is flanked by MPs who know better than the electorate and who are not shy of saying so. Bollocks to him and bollocks to them. Now that the bloody Lib-Dems have made their undemocratic and illiberal views so injuriously clear, I feel politically homeless.

Strangely she was also wearing a gigantic Frida Kahlo bracelet - a disabled bisexual woman of colour, a fervent Communist and lover of Leon Trotsky.
