Lots of First Class posts on here lately so here is one by Special Delivery

All this current talk of a 'Transitional Period' makes me really annoyed. I did not vote for Brexit to have anyone tell me that come 2019 when we should be out we will not be for goodness knows how long.

This comes over like a plot to keep us in since these exit talks will just get nowhere.

If Theresa May has any balls she should show them on her return from her hols - note that a walk in Wales is not good enough anymore and now it must be Tuscany with a photographer ala Call me Dave - and quell this revolt. If it means sacking Hammond, who appears most vocal in this respect, then so be. He only stayed where he is due to the fortunes of the Conservatives post GE. But surely he has overplayed his card.

People sometimes forget that we British are not the only players here or even the most important ones. This idea that the process is reversible is not realistic, either as a threat or as an opportunity. We British have burned our boats as far as remaining in the EU is concerned. It is extremely naïve to imagine that someone (perhaps Spain?) would not veto us if we asked to be let back in. Theresa May is a bag of shit and I don't look for useful input from her. Her approach to the negotiation has been exploded by the election verdict and frankly this is good news for those of us who would like to encourage a constructive dialogue.

I ma no fan of Phillip Hammond, who is a typical neo-liberal prick, just as bad as Cameron and Osborne. But I do agree with him that a transitional arrangement is obvious common sense to avoid sudden and disorganised change. I am not particularly sold on any artificial deadline such as 2022 or any other date. I think we should move to new arrangements when all parties are good and ready and that can be whenever. But what is very clear is that we need to getting on with the process and the quicker we start the quicker we finish.
