Next week's Peterborough Bye election might prove interesting with 16 candidates and the two main parties seemingly the least popular at the moment.

The Tories shot themselves in the foot by going at Fiona Onasanya so hard.

That said, mad that someone would vote for a party that has no policies other than doing a hard Brexit. MEP elections as a protest vote I can understand as it's EU related.

Seems even more weird considering Farage's stance on total privatisation of the healthcare with a US style insurance based system.

They should have gone harder, it took the city council to get the liar out.

She made a stupid mistake and lied under heavy scrutiny. Trial by media and it was blown out of proprotion- it was just a speeding ticket.

End result pleases only those that think hard Brexit is a sustainable position.

Er .... sorry but the end result only pleases those who believe we should be truthful when lawfully questioned by the police, she was a dumb lying bint and got caught, she had plenty chances to change her story so I have no sympathy for the brainless cow.

Interesting that palo is the only one to thank that post

She was caught in a deliberate lie on a minor offence and should have stood up and accepted blame, instead she built lie upon lie, I would not trust someone with judgement so bad to be my MP.

Maybe palo knows something we don't though

I find your argument fundimentally flawed. Of course they can be drunk all the time.

Bear in mind she was already under scrutiny for being a minority and female politician and you referring to her as 'bint' typifies the extra level of abuse she gets.

Pretty sure if it were a white male Tory he'd of shrugged it off- press says naughty boy, don't do it again. Rebrands himself as some kind of lovable rebellious rogue, does chat shows, sells book.

I find the attitude that the general public are too stupid and uneducated to be allowed to vote in a referendum to be rather Elitist, I also think it betrays an "anti-democratic" tendency in those who think that way.
Because a general election isn't a binary choice- you vote for an MP to repsent your interests in Parliment. No one political party holds all the power- it's how you get concensus. On key issues MPs will often vote against the whip.

Putting a simple A/B, yes/no in/out question to the public on a complicated issue like the UK's relationship with Europe is incredibly stupid.

Also 52/48 is too close to 50/50. If the result had been a conclusive 60/40 I doubt they'd be as much of a rush, the exit process more orderly.

Really it's time to get off your PC high horse.
I'd refer to anyone whether female, male or indifferent, tall, short or boring medium, bald, clean shaven, ginger or spotty who did what she did as a dozy bint (albeit I'd swap the words dozy twat for blokes).
She was confronted several times and had plenty chances to own up and say sorry but instead she stuck by her ridiculous story and wasted police time.

She is apparently a trained solicitor

Maybe they lowered the examination pass marks that year
